Club Galaxy, one of the oldest and most well-known clubs on the Cape Flats, has an amazing legacy that spans 31 years. Known as a premiere jazz venue with live bands normally playing jazz covers, today the Galaxy has changed their music to cater for the younger crowds. It still plays the best contemporary jazz music at its upstairs venue called West End. It’s hard to meet anybody that grew up on the Cape Flats that does not have a Galaxy story. I became a regular and went mainly on Thursday nights, and on Saturday afternoons, it was the matinee for over 21 year olds.

I have decided to host my own Galaxy Sessions, where I will source and post the jazz songs normally played at the Galaxy. To understand why the Galaxy was so amazing, one has to experience the music played there. This is why I decided to start the Galaxy Sessions on my blog.

Today’s Galaxy session features ARDIJAH

Below is a remix version of their song “Silly love songs ” ( could find the original version)

This New Zealand band was founded in 1978, with two Maori friends, Ryan Monga and John Wilhongi. After playing mainly covers for 6 years in the clubs, the band grew and developed their own original sound called “Poly Fonk.” This is a blend of funk & soul, fused with their own distinct, infectious Polynesian groove rhythms. In 1998, they released an album called “Time” with their number one singled called “Silly Love Song.” It also became a Galaxy anthem.

And I thought that New Zealanders only sang the Haka.
