The new Ford Fiesta ST is to cars what Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy album was to music – a highly anticipated case of hurry-up-and-wait. I mean it’s been on and off the cards ever since the current sixth-generation Fiesta launched back in 2008. First Ford said we wouldn’t get one. Then they changed their minds and said we would. Then it was tipped to debut in 2011. Then it didn’t. Well now it seems like the Blue Oval has finally got it all together.

In fact production of the fastest factory Fiesta ever (0-100km/h in 6.9-seconds and a claimed top speed 220km/h) has commenced at the Ford assembly plant in Cologne, Germany. Best of all, Ford has also just confirmed that we can expect the new 132kW ST to land in South Africa during the second quarter of 2013. About bloody time if you ask me.
