An exciting new racing formula will be debuting at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 24 November. Forming part of the popular Extreme Festival – a day that attracts large crowds thanks to the presence of live bands and other alternative entertainment – the Pirelli Rosso Challenge will be thrilling trackside petrolheads with the operatic wail of loud Italian V8 engines.
The brainchild of Pablo Clark Racing, this one-marque motorsport series is open only to modern-day Ferrari supercars like the 360 Modena, F430 Challenge and 458 Italia – something that should certainly create quite an on-track spectacle. According to Pablo Clark the emphasis is on creating a semi-affordable race formula that is not dominated by those with big budgets. And one of the ways they plan to do this is by limiting all competitors to just one set of subsidized Pirelli tyres per race meeting.
On the day there will be one qualifying session and no less than two 12-minute sprint races to keep the competitors honest. Speaking of which, you can expect an experienced field of drivers including the likes of Jaki Scheckter, Franco Scribante, Jonathan du Toit and Rui Campos. Pablo Clark Racing has even been as brave to offer me a seat inside a Class B 360 Modena. It is going to be a vastly different experience from piloting my Ford Mustang Fastback GT in the Midas Historic Tour but I’m certainly amped up and looking forward to the challenge. I’ll be tweeting live from the racetrack, so be sure to follow me for updates and pictures.
