The Wheel Deal

Fixing you up with life in the fast lane.

53-year-old NASCAR driver, Mark Martin, narrowly avoided serious injury at this weekend’s Pure Michigan 400. Martin, who qualified on pole position and was leading the race, got caught up in a tail end wreck that saw him lose control of his No.55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota on lap 64. After skidding sideways for some 30-metres, his car was literally impaled when it hit an opening in the pit wall. Fortunately Martin emerged smiling and unscathed. Lucky – a couple of centimetres more and that concrete barrier would have punched straight through the driver’s side door.

Ouch! Have to say Nascar looks like much more fun to watch than F1.. too bad we don’t get much coverage in SA. Was pretty close to the camera crew on the stand too!
