The Wheel Deal

Fixing you up with life in the fast lane.

Word to your moms – the new Ford Focus ST is finally on its way to South Africa. Powered by a 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine (that old five-pot has been banished to the history books forever), it will be hitting local showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2012. Available in chavtastic colours like Tangerine Scream (see above), ST version 3.0 comes out swinging with 182-kilowatts worth of power. This means it’ll dispatch (according to a recent road-test on Jalopnik.com) the 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.4-seconds.

A six-speed manual gearbox comes standard as does a heavily revised chassis designed to reward sporty driving. Ford has also grafted in their new Torque Vectoring Control (TVC) system that helps to quell understeer and ensure more precise cornering when exploring the car’s limits. In other words the new Focus ST will make you feel like a good driver even if you’re not one.

Just like its predecessor, this newcomer gets figure-hugging Recaro seats as well as a special dial pod located on top of the centre console. In it you’ll find gauges detailing turbo boost pressure, oil pressure and oil temperature – essential for hardcore hooning of the highest degree. Though Ford South Africa hasn’t confirmed pricing, in America the Focus ST currently retails for $25 000.
