A lot has been mentioned about the Honda‘s looks and performance over the last couple of days but not much has been said about its interior. A vitally important element to consider when choosing any car, I got a chance to test the Type-R’s innards on a recent romp from Simon’s Town to the V&A. I’ve certainly got no qualms about the front of the Civic (okay, maybe the switchgear does get a little confusing at times and the seats are maybe just a tad too hard) and it turns out that the rear is just as accommodating. I know this because I plonked a friend of mine, Meg, on the rear bench for our foray across Chapman’s Peak and she was very happy with the amount of space the aft section of the Type-R actually offered.
“It’s not very easy to get into,” she commented after contorting between the passenger seat and the B-pillar, “but once you’re sitting down there’s actually a lot of room. I’m impressed because when I first saw the car I thought I was going to be really squished back here.” A lawyer in training and somebody who’s certainly not shy when it comes to for calling a spade a spade, I trust her judgement. “It’s also got enormous cup-holders, which is really cool if you’re picking up super-size shakes at the drive-thru.” Meg went on to make a few more notes concerning the useful size of the interior but I fear that they might be a little risque to put in print. After all, this is a family motoring blog…
Another day, another vista. The Type-R stares longingly at Hout Bay
