Alfa GT Limited Edition

Alfa is finally putting their GT to pasture with a Limited Edition model released to celebrate the firm’s centenary year. Designed by Bertone and rocking the aurally pleasing 176 kW 3.2-litre Quadcam V6 engine, only 30 of these swansong coupes will be made available in South Africa and each will command a princely price tag of R395 100 (R410 063 including the soon-to-be-passed C02 emissions tax).

This seems like a lot of money to shell out on car that’s long past its prime but this is because Alfa is tarting it up with a long list of exciting “once-off” accessories, the likes of which include: 18-inch “Limited Edition” alloys (5-spoke design); sports leather seats with red stitching (leather seats are standard on the normal 3.2 but the design is new for the LE); Blue&Me (handsfree Bluetooth, media player with USB port and voice commands); Red brake calipers; Satin metallic finish mirrors, grille and door handles; visibility pack (auto headlights and wipers) and, finally, an internal pack that consists of aluminium sports pedals and instrument cluster.

Still, with an unchanged and fairly pedestrian 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.7-seconds and a maximum top speed of 243km/h, you’d have to be a real die-hard Alfa fan – or have rocks in your head – to actually want to buy one. Especially with the cheaper and better-to-drive VW Scirocco around.

A VW just isn’t an Alfa.

Yes but a GT just isn’t a Scirocco. At R410 063 I think Alfa are having a laugh…

What a horrendous interior! I prefer the Brera 3.2 V6.

Yeah, it’s basically identical to the one used in the old 147 hatch. That means a terrible driving position. Well, unless you have the proportions of an orangoutang…
