Need proof that loud motors and killer tunes really do make the ultimate pop culture mix? Well then check out the five best car-themed music videos of all time:
Robbie Williams: Supreme
Starring none other than racing legend Jackie Stewart, Supreme is perhaps one of the finest car music videos to ever screen on MTV thanks to the many old-school Formula Ones roaring through its sepia-tinged frames. From the camera angles and editing techniques right down to the period dress, everything crackles with a ’70s authenticity.
Jamiroquai: Cosmic Girl
The music video for Jamiroquai’s Cosmic Girl was filmed on location in Spain and features a Ferrari F355, a Ferrari F40 and a Lamborghini Diablo SE30. Shot at dawn right through to dusk, it might not have much of a story line but, hey, who needs one when you’ve got three of the most iconic ’90s supercars weaving across the roads of a Mediterranean desert?
Junkie XL: Zerotonine
Top-Fuel Funny Cars and jumpsuited pit babes assemble in Junkie XL’s drum-heavy music video, Zerotonine. Taken off his second album titled The Big Sound of The Drags, this quirky racing montage definitely puts you in the mood for a little tyre-squealing action.
Gorillaz: Stylo
A CGI masterpiece of monumental proportions, Stylo is a musical monument to the American muscle car era. Indeed, it sees a Chevrolet El Camino (driven by Bruce Willis) chasing down a Chevrolet Camaro (driven by the band) across a hot and dusty desert highway. Great to look at, the song, featuring Bobby Womack on vocals, isn’t half bad either.
Jay-Z: Show Me What You Got
While it might not be the best track Jay-Z has ever penned, the music video for Show Me What You Got is filled with all sorts of automotive eye candy. Filmed in the hills outside Monaco, it sees the lovely Danica Patrick in a Pagani Zonda chasing down Jay and Dale Earnhardt Jr. behind the wheel of a Ferrari F430 Spyder.
