According to a recent report on autoblog, Audi insiders have hinted that the R8 supercar could soon come fitted with the firm’s brilliant seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox. Already used in other Audi products, this dual-clutch system is far more advanced than the old R-Tronic gearbox currently implemented in the R8 range and will provide drivers with smoother, quicker gear shifts. However, due to the amount of torque that the mighty R8 V10 produces, we’ll probably only see this system shoehorned into the less the powerful R8 V8 model for the time being. Either way, it’ll be great to finally see the demise of R-Tronic; I experienced it for the first time in the R8 V10 last year and its violent, jerky behavior really marred what was an otherwise faultless piece of machinery.
