EV Super Cub

The most successful vehicle of all time – the legendary Honda Super Cub – has gone electric. Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show and drawing heavily on the design of the ’58 original, Honda says that the new Cub will be “just as functional and convenient as its world famous predecessor.” Now although an electric Super Cub does sound like a good idea on paper, one has to wonder whether it’ll be able to match the reliability, simplicity or economy of its 50cc brother. I mean, with just a few liters of low-grade petrol in its tank, the fix-it-yourself-four-stroke will run for about 453-kilometres before you need to pull into a service station. And with the relatively high price of lithium-ion batteries pushing up the cost of manufacturing, the EV Cub will probably wear a price tag inaccessible to its traditional, low income customer base. Sorry Honda but I’ve got to say: nice idea, wrong product.
