This camouflaged monster is called the Oshkosh LSVR (Logistics Vehicle System Replacement) and it’s going to be rolling into Afghanistan at the end of October to help the US Marines in their battle against the Taliban. Capable of hauling 22.5-tons of military gear across tarmac and 13.5-tons off-road, the latest Oshkosh is powered by a tough 447-kilowatt C15 engine that gives this machine the sort of grunt needed to tackle the tricky desert terrain that the Marines are currently operating on. Besides being fitted with fully independent “TAK-4″ suspension, the Oshkosh LVSR also features an advanced “Command Zone” electronic diagnostics system that allows its crew to closely monitor its engine, transmission, brakes and other critical components all from the safety of their armored cab.
A gigantic 628-litre fuel tank that, incidentally, costs a staggering R5626 to fill, gives the Oshkosh a useful operating range of around 483-kilometers – good enough to help keep even the most remote Marine outposts locked, loaded and supplied throughout the ongoing military campaign.
