kremlin-straight

Three Formula One teams – AT&T Williams, Red Bull Racing and McLaren – tore around the streets of Moscow yesterday in the 2009 Bavaria City Racing series. The weather was blisteringly hot but fans flocked to the armco barriers nonetheless where they watched the cars blur past the walls of the infamous Kremlin. The drivers – Kazuki Nakajima, David Coulthard and Heikki Kovalainen – put on a great show as they maxxed their machines out down the straights and indulged in a few tyre-shredding burnouts at points along the 4.5-kilometre course. In between it all we were also treated to exotic car parades and some of the most stunning grid-girls us non-Russians had ever seen. Scroll through the pics below to get a better taste of the day’s events…

st-basils

Not a bad building to have at any start/finish line, the mighty St. Basil’s Cathedral battled the cars for the crowds’ attention.

bavaria-girls

Strutting around in body-hugging latex suits, the shapely Bavaria grid-girls made the Russian heat even more unbearable.

bugatti-eb1101

During the second supercar parade, some Russian playboy with a supermodel girlfriend managed to prang his ultra-rare Bugatti EB110 into one of the crash barriers. The programme was delayed by 45-minutes as the marshals had to clear all the oil and shattered carbon fiber from the track. Only 139 of these cars were ever made, so this little incident really hurt.

dc-close

A close-up of David Coulthard re-approaching the start-finish line. Although popular with the ladies, DC seemed to lack the pace of Heikki Kovalainen down the straights and his burnout skills weren’t nearly as entertaining as Kazuki Nakajimas.

heikki-kovalainen-3

Heikki Kovalainen really gave it horns and was by far the quickest driver out on the course yesterday. That McLaren engine sounded great too, cracking and popping off the Kremlin’s boundary wall.

nakajima-burnout

The well-spoken gentleman from Japan – Kazuki Nakajima – showing the crowd how a burnout is really done.

vodka-girls

Two Russian promo girls leave their vodka stand to pose with a rather lucky Lotus Europa S.

dc-cheers

A genuine showman, David Coulthard climbs atop his Red Bull and waves to the spectators gathered around the start/finish line. Notice that adoring look from the grid-girl on the far right.
