A thousand feet up: THIS is the world’s highest restaurant

If heights don’t make you lose your lunch, eating at At.mosphere will be one for the books. The restaurant sits at Level 122 – 442 metres up – on the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, in Dubai.

The 210-seater will serve comtemporary European cuisine – prime cuts of beef, organic poultry and seafood. Sadly, no pigeon.

When you’re finished eating, you can head two floors up to the At The Top observation deck where you can round off dinner by buying gold bars. From a vending machine. And the experts said Dubai was done and dusted. Well, it ain’t over until the last vending machine is empty …

End of a 45-year era as TAP drops Johannesburg route

TAP Portugal will cease flights on the Lisbon-Johannesburg route from June 1, the airline said this week.

The carrier plans to focus on its direct route between Maputo and Lisbon. Travellers wishing to fly from Johannesburg will be accommodated on short-haul flights on Mozambican carrier LAM and South African Airways.

A connecting flight is, by definition, a poor substitute for a direct flight but it’s clear from the move that TAP sees more value in its Maputo connection. It also means much less competition: instead of scrapping with dozens of European and Gulf airlines over the same little pie, TAP and LAM will operate the Maputo-Lisbon route together under a codeshare agreement.
