piper

Roving Times correspondent Nicki Güles files one last dispatch before she heads for home.

He calls himself the Badpiper and he literally rocked Perth’s Murray Street Mall today.

Cam McAzie had the floor vibrating with his rock bagpipe music played at earsplitting levels to a backing track of squealing electric guitars and pounding drums.

The bad boy of the bagpipes, McAzie, a fourth generation Aussie whose family did, in fact come from Scotland, wears a studded leather kilt, slags off his audience, and horrifies passing grannies by cursing during his commentary.

Just back from a tour of Europe, he really knows how to play what he calls the checkered octopus of evil. His rendition of bagpipe repertoire staple Amazing Grace was brilliant.
