sex

Love Land, China’s first sex theme park, has been bulldozed before it even opened. It seems the authorities found the displays such as a pair of giant legs topped with a red thong (thanks to The Times, London, and AFP, for the photo) and oversized statues of genitalia, hard to swallow.

After the park hit the headlines last week, the officials in the southwestern city of Chongqing came for a look, hated what they saw, and called the wrecking crew.

The China Daily said officials called the park “vulgar, ill-minded and misleading”.

When it comes to sex, it seems the Chinese are somewhat more squeamish than the Dutch whose sex museum in Amsterdam is a de rigeur stop for snickering travellers (of course, they visit just for the “art”, don’t they?), nor, apparently, are they like the South Koreans whose “how to” sex park called Jeju Loveland on Cheju Island is reputed to be a hot and heavy breathing spot for honeymooners.

The Sex Museum is a labour, of um, love by its owners who have personally collected the artefacts over the years. It’s 3 euros to get in, and forget it if you’re not yet 16.

Jeju Loveland, on the other hand, is open to all, even kids. It’s an island, though, so one clearly has to make the effort. Oh, and the official website is fickle, but there’s a blogger named Accelerated Decrepitude who can tell you all about it.
