US rapper Pitbull is coming to South Africa this Easter weekend.
Pitbull is performing at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg on Friday, at the Wave House in Durban on Saturday and at the CTICC in Cape Town on Sunday.
To get you in the mood for this weekend’s performances, here’s one of Pitbull’s greatest hits.
Two weeks ago I blogged about the Grammy award- winning hip-hop group Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony coming to SA. Their first performance was supposed to take place at the Baseline this past weekend but on Wednesday Computicket announced that there shows were cancelled.
The Sunday Times reports that Australian promoter Steven Azar says that it’s “not a cancellation, but a postponement.”
Last week I blogged about a rumour that was doing the rounds, one about the SAMA’s relocating to Joburg. Well, it’s official! The 17th annual South African Music Awards are moving from Sun City to Montecasino. The awards will be held at Montecasino on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st May 2011.
While most people believe that the move is due to financial constraints, the organizers are adamant that it’s about making the awards more accessible. The SAMA oganizers say “as SA music’s biggest night, we will for the first time in its history also make SAMA even more accessible to the fans by hosting MTN SAMA17 at Monte Casino, making more tickets available to the fans to both the Friday and Saturday Awards Shows including selective VIP packages, adding more events and live performances in addition to the extensive windows and content on TV, radio, online and mobile webcasts.”
The second part of the rumour is just that, a rumour. Heineken is still a sponsor. Heineken spokesperson Jan Willem van Wensem, Brandhouse Portfolio Manager Beer says “This is Heineken’s fourth year as the official beer and after-party sponsor and we are thrilled to be a partner and supporter of this prestigious event. ”
British crooner James Blunt is coming to South Africa (again) in August.
The pop rock singer is set to perform in Johannesburg and Durban.
Promoting his third studio album Some kind of trouble, James is sure to entertain the crowd, and drive the women a bit crazy, with his singles Stay the night and So far gone.
The concert will take place at the ICC in Durban on 24 August and in Joburg at the Coca-Cola Dome on 26 August.
And in case you’ve forgotten what James sounds like, this is him performing his hit You’re beautiful live at the BBC.
Thursday night was hectic, with Fifi going all over town. The Party people headed to Taboo for the Jameson Global Party and of course we had to see what the fuss was about.
It was a 24-hour celebration as the party took place in 16 countries, with live streaming between the flagship events hosted in Joburg, SA; Dublin, Ireland and Sofia, Bulgaria.
MC’d by Bonang Matheba, some of Mzansi’s hottest DJ’s, including DJ Fresh and DJ Kent performed great sets. I must say, the highlight of the evening was the live cross-over to Groove Armada in Dublin. My feet couldn’t stop moving! However, not everyone enjoyed the music. Some didn’t make it to the dance floor and others set off quite early, opting to party elsewhere.
Congratulations are in order for Francois Nel. For the second year running, the winner of Mr Gay World comes from South Africa.
Francois represented SA in at the pageant and was crowned the winner at Club Mwah in Manila, Philippines on Sunday.
Next year, the pageant will take place in Johannesburg.
Yes, it’s true. Bone Thugs ‘n Harmony are on their way to South Africa!
The Grammy Award winning group will perform in Cape Town on 30 and 31 March and on 2 April according to Computicket’s website.
No word yet on performances elsewhere or who their opening act will be.
Even though they released an album in 2010, Uni5: The World’s Enemy, I must admit I haven’t heard anything from them in years!
This is my favourite track of the group.

Rumour has it that superstar Beyonce Knowles is in South Africa! Apparently, Beyonce, is joined by her husband Jay-Z and rapper Kanye West, and spending time in Mafikeng.
We read a few tweets from people saying that they’ve spotted Bootylicious Beyonce and Jay- Z at Sun City. But we’re not sure how true those claims are. Star struck or not, wouldn’t you take a tweetpic if we spotted the power couple?
What we will say is: Kanye West hasn’t tweeted since March 2, and there’ve been no paparazzi sightings of the beautiful Beyonce since March 1.
