GUESS launched their 2011 Spring Summer collection at a slap-up no expenses spared event at Shine Studio’s in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
VIP guests Mathew and Sonia Booth (Sonia – what was that beanie all about – bad hair day?), Noni Gasa,Dion Chang, Kuli Roberts (where was your top hat to go with the tails?), Ryan Botha and his yummy lady friend, all arrived in chauffeur driven Audi’s.
Guests clamored for seats (next time maybe plan for more as there lots of upstanding observers) as action on the ramp began with their swim wear range, which immediately had everyone hot under the collar – especially when Top Billing presenter Aidan Bennetts strode out from backstage exhibiting his six pack and intricately tattooed and sculpted back.
An adorable assortment of cute munchkins modeled the GUESS kid’s range – the oohs and aahs from the audience declared that they may have wanted to take the children home – never mind the clothes.
Highlight of the collection for me would definitely be the evening wear – sequins, satin, bling and plenty of black, faux fur and animal prints – now if only I had the body to wear them – Guess please make an XXXL.
One of my favourite SA bands Prime Circle and quartet The Muses, closed the ramp action by playing some of their more popular hits. Drinks at the Jameson Bar flowed all night whilst plentiful delish snacks lined empty tummies of the 500 strong guest list.
Lucky were those who were gifted with the goodie bags which were super: GQ and Glamour magazines, Guess sunglasses and fragrance to mention some of the contents.
GUESS sure knows how to throw a party – I personally can’t wait for the next one!

FHM dubbed Bonang Matheba “SA’s Queen Of All Media” and I can’t think of a better description. The 23 year old is a TV and radio personality; owns a handbag label, has her own website and she’s an ambassador for several products (to name a few: she has a Diva Divine weave named after her, drives a sponsored Peugeot and is the face of Gert Johan Coetzee’s fashion label).
She’s a dominant figure in the entertainment industry and now she’s determined to conquer online media.
Last week Bonang held an intimate party where she celebrated her FHM cover and announced her latest venture: her own reality show. The show is billed as an inside look into her busy life and every week a 15 minute episode will be aired on her website.
But viewers got their first glimpse of Bonang’s lifestyle when she was featured in the debut episode of VUZU TV’s new lifestyle reality show, Top Shayela. Twitter was buzzing the night it was screened as fans watched in awe and admiration.
But amidst the rave reviews, there were Nonhle Thema‘s passive aggressive to arrogant tweets about other entertainers trying to copy her reality show ‘swag’.
Nonhle was the first South African to receive her own Reality Show “Nonhle Goes To Hollywood” but the show was discontinued after it received negative response. Her questionable tweets have spurred rumours that she might be jealous of Bonang’s popularity and success.
Here are some more pictures from Bonang’s B*Dazzled party:
It wasn’t a ladies only affair. I also spotted her rumoured boyfriend DJ Euphonik as well as Lulo Café, Da L.E.S, T Bo Touch, Kaos Matu, Gert Johan Coetzee and Linda Moeketsi, but my camera was dead by then.
Last week I was fortunate enough to receive an exclusive invite to the Nine West & YFM Shopping experience at the Nine West store at The Zone in Rosebank. Nine West teamed up with YFM to officially launch their new store. We were served champagne and canapes as we shopped. Well, I shopped with my eyes while the rest of the guests looked for shoes and accessories to buy with their one-night-only 15% discount voucher. Bonang Matheba hosted the event and YFM’s DJ Josi Chave and DJ Warras played some tunes while we shopped and mingled. Local celebrities such as Uyanda Mbuli, Rosie Motene, Pam Andrews, Claire Mawisa and Kendra attended the event and I got an opportunity to chat to them on camera.
Congratulations to Nine West and YFM for hosting such a chic event. And many thanks to my colleague Lebogang Tsele for producing this video. Enjoy!

I caught up with Claire Mawisa at the the Nine West & YFM Shopping experience. And I must be honest, I have a bit of a “girl crush” on her. She’s effortlessly beautiful and easy to get along with. I asked her to share some of her beauty tips. P.S. wait for the video to buffer after you’ve pressed play now.

Having ditched the Wonderbra event, Fifi moved onto the highly anticipated launch of Playboy magazine, which has once again decided to re-visit our shores after a 16 year absence.
It was not quite the dazzling scene that I expected! I anticipated something akin to the PLAYBOY Mansion parties that we see on the Entertainment channel – busty bunnies dressed in multi-coloured bustiers with matching ears, exclusive guest list featuring celebrities and socialites galore PLUS cocktails flowing in abundance…
The bunnies were just regular girls dressed up for the event – as much as they were mostly pretty – maybe models should have been hired as serious eye candy for the anticipated male readership that they are hoping to attract.
I’m not sure if it was because there were so many parties last night, OR local schlebs decided to just have an early night – mentionable names were few and far between – Christina Storm, Jen Su, Uyanda Mbuli, Dineo Ranaka, Babalwa Mneno, Carmel Fisher, Linda Moeketsi, David Bullard, Kuli Roberts and Claire Mawisa were the only faces that I recognised.
Tracey McGregor however provided glamour and oozed charm as she was announced as April’s PLAYBOY cover-girl. What a lovely young lady – absolutely gorgeous – spectacular images of her in the launch issue too.
April playmate, Amy Tara Bridger shyly made her way around the room – looked like she may be wanting to replace that boyfriend that she dumped months ago. Maybe she should wait till she visits the legendary PLAYBOY Mansion in California when she competes for the ultimate title of Playmate of the Year – who knows what she could come home with OR not come home at all!
The party fizzled out early and most I heard were heading to the Jameson Global Party which was not that much fun either – see our next post coming soon…
Mika Stefano & Gregg Hammond (Cosmo's Sexiest SA man)
It was all about chiseled abs and blue steel poses at Cosmopolitan’s launch party for the 2011 Sexiest SA Men Calendar. The thirteen guys who featured in the calendar went head to head at The Oxford in Illovo and Gregg Hammond came out on top. Readers awarded Gregg (who happens to be a model) the title of sexiest calendar guy. A title which earned him gift hampers, R10 000 and a lot of adoration.
The event was hosted by Bonang Matheba and there was a performance by Liquideep. Ladies couldn’t help but perve and pant when Ziyon got on stage, dressed as I predicted, in a shrunken suit and bow tie. Another performer who attended was Thembi Seete. We spotted her doing what she does best, dancing. All in all it was a good event, with an open bar, an abundance of hors d’oeuvres and guy candy. But only a few celebs attended, and most of them were women.
P.S. Do you think Gregg is SA’s Sexiest?
