Rumour has it that superstar Beyonce Knowles is in South Africa! Apparently, Beyonce, is joined by her husband Jay-Z and rapper Kanye West, and spending time in Mafikeng.
We read a few tweets from people saying that they’ve spotted Bootylicious Beyonce and Jay- Z at Sun City. But we’re not sure how true those claims are. Star struck or not, wouldn’t you take a tweetpic if we spotted the power couple?
What we will say is: Kanye West hasn’t tweeted since March 2, and there’ve been no paparazzi sightings of the beautiful Beyonce since March 1.
Do you wake up and have a song stuck in your head? Do you want to discuss that song with friends? Well, that’s the concept of Music Express Nights, which took place at Bassline last night.
Before people just went to music shows. They heard from friends what was good, they sat in their seats, watched the show, muttered in the lobby, and then went home. Now these music sessions aim to get the audiences to interact with the artists and even get to discuss the music.
On the line up last night was jazz vocalist Hlulani Hlangwane and Joel Zuma. Hlangwane a soul and jazz singer kept the crowd captivated with her amazing set. Her style ranges from jazz to lounge. The beautiful voices, we heard and reminded me yet again of the amazing talent we have in this country. Hitting the right notes, Hlangwane also got the audience talking and wanting more.
Amongst the spectators was poet Myesha Jenkins who commented that listening to such music makes her want to be a lyricist. Zuma, with no relation to the president, got even the loneliest of hearts sing along to love jams.
The whole evening got one thinking that we need to to see more of this kind of occurrences and just have soulful experience.
Music Expression Nights, is brought by Themba Ndala and the next session will be on the 4th April 2011.
It’s here!! A few weeks ago we brought you the audio, and now the music video. Willow Smith released the video for her second single, 21st Century Girl.
I like this video, alot! Even though Willow is in a grown-up world, the video is anything but. It’s a fun and exciting music video and it left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling of happiness.
He’s often spotted in the Front Row at Fashion Week and now he wants to put his knowledge to theory.
The Grammy winning rapper wants a Masters degree in fashion!
No stranger to controversy, Kanye has reportedly applied for a Masters degree in fashion, at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College in London.
One thing Kanye can’t bank on, is his fame. He was interviewed by the school’s board, who will now decide if he’s made the cut.
Previous students include Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney.
As much as he’s known for his artistic ability, he does know a thing or three about fashion. In 2009, Kanye collaborated with Louis Vuitton – they released a sneaker collection.
I for one, would line up to buy clothing from the Kanye West label (well, that’s if I could afford it).
No no no, not together (phew!), but it seems celebrities do not learn from previous ‘leaks’ of naked pictures.
Well, the latest ‘victims’ are Chris Brown and Britney Spears.
Britney is being sued by an ex-bodyguard, Fernando Flores, who alleges the superstar sent him nude pictures of herself, in compromising positions nogal.
Of course Britney denies the claim, but Fernando is going ahead with his lawsuit (he lodged a sexual harassment case against the singer) and is threatening to release the pictures, which a ‘friend of Fernando’ says will shock and disgust Britney’s fans.
And then there’s Chris Brown – who I thought was getting his life back after the Rihanna-beating incident.
The internet went crazy this weekend, after an ex ‘leaked’ nude pictures of Chris standing in front of a mirror while taking his phone up to take a snapshot.
In the picture, ‘Chris’ sports blonde hair (his fairly new hairdo) and tattoos, similar to the singer’s.
Then again, there’s no such thing as bad publicity right? After all, it helps so many artists when they’re about to release a new album or movie.
Speaking of, Chris is releasing his new CD in three weeks which will be followed by a world tour.
The artist formerly known as JLo is back with On The Floor, the single from her upcoming album, Love?.
Since her last album, Jennifer has become a mom and stayed out of the limelight. Well now she’s back in the spotlight, by being the only female judge on the reality TV show, American Idol.
She used this platform to debut her new video, where she collaborates with Pitbull. The song is up-tempo with a strong Latin influence.

Locally produced film, Life Above All, won 6 Awards at the South African Film And Television Awards (SAFTA’s), received a 10 minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, was shortlisted by the Academy Awards committee in the Best Foreign Feature Film category (but didn’t make the final list) and received praise at the Toronto Film Festival, London Film Festival and Dubai Film Festival.
So we were a bit anxious when we scored an invite to the official SA premier at Montecasino. We were anxious to see what the rest of the world was raving about. And we weren’t disappointed! Director Oliver Schmitz and his cast that includes Lerato Mvelase, Harriet Manamela, Aubrey Poolo and newcomers Khomotso Manyaka and Keaobaka Makanyane, produced an amazing movie!
In the movie, the issue of HIV/AIDS is told through the life and struggles of a young rural girl whose parents suffer with the disease and the stigma that people attach to it. But it’s multi-layered and also deals with universal issues that women face such as abuse, unemployment and raising children in poverty.
I know it sounds somber, and I suppose it is but it’s also bold and inspiring. It showcases our country’s cinematic brilliance and young, new talent. The movies lead actress, 13 year-old Khomotso Manyaka won Best Lead Actress in A Feature Film at the SAFTA’s and this was her first ever acting role. And supporting actress, Keaobaka Makanyane (13), who is also a newbie played her role convincingly, her performance was years beyond her age. We look forward to seeing what these local starlets will do next.
The movie will be released nationally on Friday 11 March.
Lady Gaga took to the runway at the Thierry Mugler fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.
The Grammy winning star made her entrance in a cloud of moke.
The models, which included Alek Wek and Coco Rocha, strutted down the runway to Gaga’s new single, Government Hooker.
Gaga looked every inch the professional model as she made her way down the runway, which she closed off with the last ensemble, a white corset dress.
ANC Youth League President Julius Malema turns the big THREE ZERO today and we all know how much our pres loves to party and pamper himself.
Last year he had a lavish birthday bash at the Seshego stadium in Limpopo which was attended by the locals, fans and fellow comrades . So it’s only natural for us to assume he’ll throw an even bigger coming of age celebration this year. But Floyd Shivambu says Juju will be celebrating with friends and family. Could this mean that he’s growing out of he’s partying ways? Or maybe he’s planning an exclusive invite only party at a secret location?
We’ve also been wondering how he’ll gift himself this year, and we’re not the only ones. 5FM DJ, Gareth Cliff called Juju this morning during his breakfast show and said “What do you want for your birthday, other than the nationalization of mines?”
Shortly after @Julius S Malema tweeted “Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Even the early morning on-air calls SMH! If I could reply to each tweet, I would” (we think he’s an impostor but we follow him anyways)
The ANC Youth League also sent Juju birthday wishes “the message of the more than 600 000 members of the ANCYL on the birthday of its president is that he should grow stronger, more radical, militant, focused and determined in leading the struggles for economic freedom in our lifetime” said spokesman Floyd Shivambu.
We hope to be on guest list for the birthday celebrations, even if its a small get together. Can you imagine the party conversations?
Anyways, from all of us at The Social, Happy Birthday Juju and thanks for all the views/ hits you give us with every controversial statement and action you make!
