Do you wake up and have a song stuck in your head? Do you want to discuss that song with friends? Well, that’s the concept of Music Express Nights, which took place at Bassline last night.

Before people just went to music shows. They heard from friends what was good, they sat in their seats, watched the show, muttered in the lobby, and then went home. Now these music sessions aim to get the audiences to interact with the artists and even get to discuss the music.

On the line up last night was jazz vocalist Hlulani Hlangwane and Joel Zuma. Hlangwane a soul and jazz singer kept the crowd captivated with her amazing set. Her style ranges from jazz to lounge. The beautiful voices, we heard and reminded me yet again of the amazing talent we have in this country. Hitting the right notes, Hlangwane also got the audience talking and wanting more.

Amongst the spectators was poet Myesha Jenkins who commented that listening to such music makes her want to be a lyricist. Zuma, with no relation to the president, got even the loneliest of hearts sing along to love jams.

The whole evening got one thinking that we need to to see more of this kind of occurrences and just have soulful experience.

Music Expression Nights, is brought by Themba Ndala and the next session will be on the 4th April 2011.
