Miami-born, Jamaican-raised Sean Kingston is back in SA for 2 gigs at Emperor’s Palace this weekend. The last time he was here was in 2008. We missed him the first time around but heard about the performance. And overheard some journalists discussing how arrogant they thought he was. So we were pleasantly surprised when we met him at  a press briefing at Emperor’s Palace yesterday. He came across as humble and he is such a mama’s boy.

The 21 year old made reference to his mother a lot, answering questions with phrases like “my mama always said and “my mama taught me”. He also said that she is his “biggest inspiration”. And when we asked him what he bought himself for his 21st, his response was “My mama bought me a Maybach so I didn’t need anything after that”

So when we finally got a moment to chat (one on one), I had to ask him whether he considers himself as a mama’s boy and he said “Yes, I’m definitely a mama’s boy”.

The ‘mama’s boy’ is also not the romantic we see on music videos. He says he is not in a relationship because “music is his girlfriend” and added that “doesn’t have time to focus on girls”.

Fans ( and moms) will be delighted to know that Sean will be signing autographs today (Thursday, 24 February) outside 64 at The Palace, Emperors Palace from 15h00 – 16h00.

His gigs are on 25 and 26 February in the Centre Court at Emperors Palace. And South African power pop outfit Jax Panik will be opening for him.
