D&G’s new set of unisex fragrances is a play on the tarot deck. 5 scents – 5 characters Le Bateleur – The Juggler,L’Imperatrice (the Empress),L’Amoureux (the Lovers),La roue de Fortune ( The wheel of fortune) and la Lune ( the Moon).
The campaign shot by Mario Testino pairs Naomi, Claudia and Eva with a scent – no surprises there – but isn’t it fascinating how iconic yet stereotypical the images of these women have become ? I’m all for the juggler…I think his prodigious bicep must aid his timing.

Fascinating article by Lisa Armstrong about the power of the Vogue editrix quartet . Here is my best quote …
“If fashion, as has often been observed, is a religion — and it has the famines, the tablets, the ominous edicts in questionable syntax delivered by someone wearing something floaty and slightly mad — then it needs its Bible, Torah, Koran and Tom Cruise, its Armani-sponsored, Swarovski-studded, pop-up pamplet. Why not one with full-colour illustrations by Mario Testino? ”

Mario Testino’s shoot for Burberry starring Emma Watson looking super feisty, launched their new season campaign yesterday. I am still finding it hard to transition from Hermione to Emma as full blown media personality but there you have it – she is clearly the girl of the moment.

Apparently photographers damaged the catwalk at the Chanel show to get a shot of Kate in the front row – I think Karl Lagerfeld did not mind one little bit but Jamie Hince and Claudia Schiffer are looking a little bemused.

Mario Testino’s Versace Fall/ Winter 2008-2009 women’s ad campaign is hot, steamy and populist in the extreme. Everyones favouritte lipstick lesbians Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan (OK Samantha is probably the genuine article) have so entered the mainstream popular conscience that fashion houses ever on the look out for the next best thing have embraced the girl on girl aesthetic with a vengeance. To wit – Natalia Vodianova and Isabeli Fontana in various states of undress with accessories to boot.

So I was reading the South African street style blog and they raised a question that we have discussed peripherally before here on the frock report – in relation to Zara.
The blogger was concerned that international labels don’t pay attention to the fact that we are operating in a different season here in the Southern hemisphere so they run adverts that are clearly directed at the northern hemisphere. Hence the ad that ran in the August and September edition of Elle: The Burberry autumn/ winter campaign featuring the delicious Sam Riley (who played Ian Curtis in last year’s Anton Corbijn film Control) and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The couple were shot by Mario Testino in black and white with more than a hint of nostalgia . The Creative director of Burberry Christopher Bailey said the campaign captures the poetic melancholy and romance of the winter collections.
So here is my take on this: I hate to be treated differently just because I am in the Southern hemisphere – call this a throwback to being heavily isolated during apartheid. Read More…
