So I was reading the South African street style blog and they raised a question that we have discussed peripherally before here on the frock report – in relation to Zara.
The blogger was concerned that international labels don’t pay attention to the fact that we are operating in a different season here in the Southern hemisphere so they run adverts that are clearly directed at the northern hemisphere. Hence the ad that ran in the August and September edition of Elle: The Burberry autumn/ winter campaign featuring the delicious Sam Riley (who played Ian Curtis in last year’s Anton Corbijn film Control) and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The couple were shot by Mario Testino in black and white with more than a hint of nostalgia . The Creative director of Burberry Christopher Bailey said the campaign captures the poetic melancholy and romance of the winter collections.
So here is my take on this: I hate to be treated differently just because I am in the Southern hemisphere – call this a throwback to being heavily isolated during apartheid. Read More…
It being Friday and all, the long lunch is very much at the forefront of thoughts in general and mine in particular so I felt I should post some pics of gals about town doing just that.

This little pic is of some of the Ex Elle girls having a little reunion lunch on Wednesday at the Corner Cafe. Pictured are Ms Zodwa Kumalo ( love the cap) , yours truly, Mariette Bergh and Karin Orzol ( love the belts )
This redhead looked charming in white at Patisserie

Yasmin is sporting a Marni top with a fantastic geometric print and good old Woolies jeans also at Patisserie – she always looks so pulled together its scary.
Happy lunching ladies

Hello fellow frocksters – welcome to 2008, I hope that sartorially speaking it all goes swimmingly. Our dear Jacquie has been a very busy girl and has reproduced – a beautiful baby boy – we will post a little pic of the handsome fellow soon.
In the interim here are a few ideas to inspire you:
I love this necklace, the length is perfect and the charms are real pressed flowers which give it a lighthearted appeal. Sadly the girl wearing got it in NYC.

Gillian Buchanan’s sweater has great detailing and the lime green color is a keeper

And Zanele Kumalo’s (Elle’s Joburg Bureau Chief) mat stockings are the new leggings – take that as advanced warning for winter 2008.
