Art of the trench- Burberry goes viral

By Aspasia Karras | 9 November 2009

Launched today : Burberry’s take on street style and social networking in one intense paean to the trench coat. The opening salvo on the “Art of the trench” are the offerings of the Sartorialist. But all lovers of this classic subject matter can get a look in by submitting their own take. Definitely worth a look in. BTW the soundtrack accompanying all the trenches of your life is the aptly named – Love You Better – The Maccabees

Anna may have given Alexa Chung the cold shoulder but Burberry love her ( as does Agyness Deyn quite palpably)- here she is on the decks at the London Fashion Week closing party.
Loved the collection

Witchy Burberry campaign

By Aspasia Karras | 10 June 2009

Mario Testino’s shoot for Burberry starring Emma Watson looking super feisty, launched their new season campaign yesterday. I am still finding it hard to transition from Hermione to Emma as full blown media personality but there you have it – she is clearly the girl of the moment.

Coco Sumner the new new

By Aspasia Karras | 13 March 2009

In the ever present desire to find the new new thing – Coco Sumner ( daughter of Sting and Trudy ) has been identified as the next London it girl – a bonafide member of the uberbrat pack. Magazine spreads in Tatler, Vanity Fair profiles and Burberry shoots ( she is the gal in the middle ) should prove it if you where doubting. She can (not surprisingly ) also sing – her band ‘I blame Coco’ has just signed to Island records….

I think she is pretty fierce – despite all her natural advantages – so does Pete Doherty

Shop openings galore:Belinda, Furla, Burberry

By Aspasia Karras | 15 September 2008

Shopaholics unite – last week was huge for enabling your compulsion to spend the pennies on all sorts of delicious goodies. That is if we survive the dramatic global economic downturn.
I went to the Belinda launch on Thursday night – the Australian shop which opened last year in Parkhurst has relocated to Hyde Park and launched with a delightful bash and fashion show – they stock Marni, Chloe and Miu Miu among others – nice work if you can get it….

Just adored this model in Marni…
Also in Hyde Park the handbag and accessories store Furla threw open its doors to the shopping public. And in Cape Town Burberry threw a bash for the local fashion community to celebrate their arrival on our shores.

Burberry Winter 2008/9 Campaign Debate

By Aspasia Karras | 10 August 2008

burberry_aw09_ad1.jpg
So I was reading the South African street style blog and they raised a question that we have discussed peripherally before here on the frock report – in relation to Zara.
The blogger was concerned that international labels don’t pay attention to the fact that we are operating in a different season here in the Southern hemisphere so they run adverts that are clearly directed at the northern hemisphere. Hence the ad that ran in the August and September edition of Elle: The Burberry autumn/ winter campaign featuring the delicious Sam Riley (who played Ian Curtis in last year’s Anton Corbijn film Control) and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The couple were shot by Mario Testino in black and white with more than a hint of nostalgia . The Creative director of Burberry Christopher Bailey said the campaign captures the poetic melancholy and romance of the winter collections.

So here is my take on this: I hate to be treated differently just because I am in the Southern hemisphere – call this a throwback to being heavily isolated during apartheid. Read More…
