While here in South Africa fashion and politics cross paths once every year via the red carpets of parliament at the State of the Nation address- which takes place tonight- in the US, Vogue editor Anna Wintour has declared the runway ‘a force for change in politics‘, as The New York Times reports.

The fashion industry giant has used her might to rope in some of the fashion industry’s most famed designers to create tote bags, T-shirts and other accessories in the name of a second term for Obama.

“Between her and Obama, I had to say yes,” said Andrew Rosen, the owner of a New York store where Anna Wintour hosted ‘Runway to Win’ on Tuesday night as part of her campaing for Barack Obama.

Back on our shores Julius Malema’s name also comes up in the fashion mix having inspired Pretoria-based designer to create an entire collection inspired by the ‘possibly’ suspended ANC Youth League leader.

As for the State of the Nation address tonight? Expect some matric-dance couture gone awry *SMH*
