Fave fashion blogs

By Aspasia Karras | 13 July 2010

I was delighted to see that one of my favourite local fashion bloggers, Justine Stafford of ifor1.co.za has started a sort of blogging collective called www.aficionado.co.za with some great news and trends from her fellow bloggers. I’ve never met Justine, but I love her style and take on what’s happening all over the world. Go and look.
My other favourite fashion blogger is Amber Jones from Mr Price, who’s blog, www.inthefashionloop.com is absolutely compelling. I get sucked into it for hours and emerge with piles of work still undone. Like now.
I loved this pic from Justine’s blog. She’s predicting skinny cargoes for summer – I like them for right now!
I feel terrible that I still haven’t posted pics from Africa Fashion Week – just not enough hours and all that. I will get to it because you HAVE to see Marianne Fassler’s show and Suzaan Heyns’ tan leather shorts!

Who can beat this hair?

By Aspasia Karras | 9 July 2010

Pic from Mike Stefano
Big hair’s big and long hair is just not going away and I can’t believe anyone in this town has more beautiful hair than actress/attorney Jena Dover. We’re about to find out: Tune into All Access on M-Net at 7.30 tonight for a look at the 10 finalists in Pantene’s search for the woman with the most beautiful hair in SA. I’m one of the judges, along with Jena, so have had a sneak preview. They are real beauties and the final judging is going to be hectic. Let me know what you think to help me along!

Seen at African Fashion Week

By Aspasia Karras | 1 July 2010

David Tlale's show at AFW
African Fashion Week has been a wonderful break to all the football madness although the seats were sadly empty for the first shows of the afternoon. I wish all those who had no football to watch could have been invited to witness our slick fashion teams at work.
This first pic is of the David Tlale midnight show which was vintage Tlale glamour with a full orchestra and an opera diva accompanying the collection. (Thanks Dion Chang for your twitter pic!)
Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe
AFI chairman Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe was there till the bitter end in a beautiful orange silk wrap and LBD.
Laquan Smith
New York designer Laquan Smith is on this afternoon. He’s dressed Gaga, Rihanna and Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley has tipped him as the next big thing. He says to expect lots of party-inspired clothing, string vests, lame and plenty of sparkle. But he’s going to keep it “very Chanel”, says Laquan. I can’t wait!
Unathi and Shaldon
I am in love with these gorgeous military coats from show producer, stylist and designer Shaldon Kopman and his team at Naked Ape. Unathi is gorgeous in the red but I also love Shaldon’s green. They’re a limited edition for the World Cup and would be perfect to wear to the next night game. Call Shaldon on 083 628 4049 if you’d like to try one.
