I have always had a soft spot for Durban’s good old Oyster Box with all its untramelled old school charm. So I was understandably a little concerned about the outcome of the mammoth makeover. Particularly given the two rather cheesy apartment blocks that popped up behind it as part of the re-development. So it is with joy in my heart and gin and tonic glass that I declare the outcome of the makeover more than satisfactory. It is charming, tasteful and lightly tacky in places – in short everything you might desire from a beachside grande dame – altogether spiffing.
