Togo have been disqualified from the African Cup of Nations after returning home from the event’s host nation Angola.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) coordinator Yaouba Amoa told the Associated Press that Togo’s group would now consist of only three teams: Burkina Faso, Ghana and Ivory Coast.
Before leaving Angola due to the death of three members of its delegation in a terrorist attack, Togo had asked organisers to find a way for the national team to rejoin the competition once they had mourned the dead.
Angolan authorities declared they have arrested two members of the separatist group that claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a separate report, CAF announced the signing of a four-year sponsorship deal with Samsung that includes the African Cup of Nations in Angola.
