BAFANA Bafana coach Joel Santana is determined to root out the ill-discipline in the national team set-up. His showed his hand by axing Spain-based defender Nasief Morris on Thursday when he named his 23-man squad at the team’s hotel in Parktown (Johannesburg). According to Santana, Morris did not follow the national team’s code of conduct, especially since he arrived late on Wednesday instead of Tuesday as expected.

WAS THE DECISION TO SACK MORRIS JUSTIFIED?

Well, I suppose that will depend on what the coach wants to achieve, which by the look of things, seems to be everything but toppling the aforementioned teams. The cause, I suppose, is to have a team of well desciplined players even if the means would cost us the cup. But then again, that should not matter much because we will continue to cheer for Bafana just as we did after the last AFCON.

If we are willing to go to the tournament without our most prolific goal scorers, who is Morris?

“What would your reaction be if you started on the bench?”…apparently is the question that was posed to Nasief Morris and that eventually led to him being aexed. his answer…
“i dont know, i guess i will have to see when it happens to know what the feeling will will be like!”. coupled with not wanting to take an interview.

In my mind, santana and pitso had Aaron and Booth in mind as a starting line up. Booth for the height, and Aaron…well Aaron is the Captain! and that’s that!

Nasief’s response, fairly valued was an honest one and obviously not the one the coaching staff wanted to hear – understandable. But apparently Aaron was in that meeting too! what’s up with that!?

if you ask me, this goes back to that issue of playing Aaron in defence when he is a regular midfield player. Nasief vs Aaron in defence! Aaron loses. Mbazo more than often is left wanting at times, iv seen many players round him like a mary-go-round! had he been deployed in his rightful position, Santana would not be faced with this issue and nasief would not have been asked that question. but its not joel’s fault.

now based on the above – was there a need to even ask Nasief that question – bearing in mind that Nasief is a player and players will do as the coach decides. if then the players behaves badly from the coach’s deceisiont than you sack him! post the decision not preceding it!

anyway. im BB all the way!

Remember though that Nasief Morris played 35 of the 38 games in la liga this past season. The man is arguably, no in fact you can’t argue against that, the best defender we have. But has been sacrificed for the likes of Booth. For Bafana Bafana I am…but for Joel Santana I aint.

Are you really saying that Morris was axed because he didn’t know what his reaction would be, to an experience that has not even occured?

from what I’ve heard, Pitso was ‘livid’ about the whole Nasief Morris thing. where do you buy your paper?

@ Luzuko,

Nasief’sagent,i think Makaab it is, was on the Marawa R show – he detailed the issue. those were his words, as far as his agent is concerned.

But think about it – it could be that he was asked such a question. I dont see morris being included in the starting line up with Aaron and Booth around (based on what i have said above) even though he is, arguably (sic), the best we have!

the idea was to have him on the bench and maybe he wasnt too happy about that. but yah like i say – those were his agent’s words.

I think Bafana will need a generous dose of luck and some ‘devine intervention’ to win the Confed Cup, and; those are not without our grasp. What a way to ignite the cup mood, at the expense of Poland over the weekend!
