I thoroughly enjoyed Avery Gilbert’s olfactory oeuvre What the Nose Knows (Crown, 2008) although what a pity there was no scratch and sniff for I’d loved to have smelt for myself whether the corpse-flower Amorphophallus titanium smelt of rotting human flesh or dirty socks as one Atlanta couple were disappointed to report after encountering one at the Atlanta Botantical Garden in 1998.
