A bad Monday for SA tourism starts off with Frank Chikane’s interview with Zainab Badawi on BBC Hardtalk. Poor old Frank couldn’t get a word in edgeways, which was probably just as well as he mixed up Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki, leaving everyone most confused about exactly what went down at Polokwane which seems to have ended in a coup d’état. A great exposition of local politics for tourists planning a trip to SA. NOT.
But even more serious was a Daily Telegraph travel story on the Western Cape which concluded “South African cheese. Try as we might, we couldn’t find one to match the marvellous wines. Maybe we just didn’t look hard enough.” Is there a COSA – the cheese equivalent of WOSA?
There was surely something wrong with this foodie’s eyes because of Bizerca Bistro the comment is “the weird setting (a garage in the city) belies some extraordinarily good cooking. Popular with visiting celebs and everyone else.” Huh? A garage? Wonder what this foodie would make of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. An airport?
South African cheese is siff.
A rather interesting comment …… and to note is so bluntly indicates your quite definite opinion. Did the none of the Fairview’s strike a chord, nor a Dalewood, none of the Woolie’s stuff, Udderly Delicious from Darling . Well if none of those entice, then alas there is no option than to put Rattex in the trap.
Apparently Annie Lennox has eaten at Bizerca Bistro! Would love to go there sometime sounds just lovely!
You can get great cheeses in SA if you look for them. George Jardine’s cheeseboard is a dream. The problem is that most restaurants don’t know a thing about cheese, or how to serve it (temperature etc).
