An extraordinary information meeting has been scheduled for 3pm on Monday at the Swartland Winery. Urgent rumour speculates that the information to be divulged will be that Charles Back of Fairview/Goats do Roam fame will take over the struggling winery. If true, this is good news for SA wine, as Charles is the most gifted wine marketer in the business, by a country mile.

Such a deal will be a coming home of sorts for Chas who was the man who put the Swartland on the fashion radar over a decade ago when he bought the farm Amoskuil, hired a certain Eben Sadie as winemaker and raised the SA quality bar with his Spice Route brand. Quite how this will effect the nascent Swartland Revolution, remains to be seen.

Strange, Charles spent the day in the cheese factory on Monday.
He has been focusing on developing a new range of cheese, some of which will be available for tasting at our Innovations media event next Thursday.
Furthermore, Charles already co-owns a co-op so why would he want another one? He has some of the best vineyards in the Swartland and, as you have already pointed out, he’s been farming in the area for quite some time now. Charles IS the Che of the Swartland
