Exports of packaged and bulk wine to the Netherlands were down 500 000 litres last year but WOSA, Wines of SA, the exporters’ mouthpiece, has come up with a cunning cultural plan to reverse the decline. By sponsoring an Afrikaans Kunstefees (arts festival) in Amsterdam in June featuring well known tipplers Breyten Breytenbach, Gert Vlok Nel and Chris Chameleon, WOSA hopes to boost SA wine sales.

Chris Chameleon to front SA wine in Amsterdam
The WOSA initiative opens up the door for other producers: perhaps SA Brandy could sponsor Jack Parow and Mr. Price could send them Die Antwoord, both acts wildly popular in De Pijp. The largest importer of SA wines in the Netherlands knows nothing of the project and is reportedly “perplexed.” But perhaps their press release went the same way as mine with WOSA now carefully cherry-picking recipients of their media largesse. Although sending Edo Heyns from Winelands to the Luanda tasting earlier this month is unlikely to hide the fact that nobody except SA producers, turned up.
Dear mushroom
My first constructive solution is for you to stop commenting on my blog. Your comments are infantile, vacuous and boring.
White Truffle,
Wine writers report from the sideline. What do yo not understand of this concept. Instead, why do you not come up with proposals to help auntie Su, or better, a solution to rid South African wine of the Here 17 who controls the industry (and auntie Su) for that matter. I suppose someone like Elliot Nash will do. Pendock’s writing is not boring, your sense of adventure is cob-webbed and as square as the Here 17 – maybe you are a member or supporter of the gang, hence your stupid personal outburst like an auntie with soiled bloomers.
If WOSA don’t send you their press releases anymore it is a scandal and totally unprofessional. WOSA needs a new public relations team to handle the reputation of South African wine. Professionals will do.
Hi Fungus
I taste for the Concours Mondial, the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Competition and several other competitions. I have written my own blind tasted wine guide and several other books. What have you ever done? Insult people from behind a pseudonym? Shame on you.
White Truffle,
You obviously do not understand blogging. One does not have to offer solutions if you disagree or agree. This is a schoolboy argument. Fact is Pendocks runs a successful entertaing blog, gets people like you hot under the collar, and in the end is nothing but a nuisance, such is the might of the Here 17. Even when he does complain or whines too much, he’s writing about industry issues, and there may well be a silent minority of which he is the voice – no matter if you disagree with the voice or the tone.
Liewe Toadstool
Your name is misspelled – it should be Trite Waffle, not White Truffle! Keep up the abuse, I’m getting out of practice now that Grape is drying up faster than a puddle in the Karoo.
Ah so, Chow san
white truffle not so good as rhino horn or ginger root.
sorry to break the lovely tirade short.
Danue- who on earth is this “Here 17″ you are talking of??? some form of Vrymesselaars no one but you are aware of?
The Here 17 are the group of mostly men empoyed by big companies to make sure everythinig is ABASA. The Here XIIV of old was the controlling Dutch body for the Cape Colony.
ooooh- that sounds very dodgy indeed.
i will be on the look out for these cloak wearing troublemakers.
White truffle! Seemingly not quiet the same as the Black truffle. Maybe just a case of being second best always.
As to blogging and characters, well, maybe tall tree’s catch all the wind.
They wear nice suits over their dik gewrigte and look like typical harmless corporates (maybe the kind you aspire to be), but wait till they start their mostly open threats.
Danie- come now, dont get cheeky with me! my aspirations are set much higher, I will prefer to just sommer openly threaten one day when I’m big!
You are funny White Truffle. Pendock should never have taken you seriously!
