30 Seconds to Mars – This is War
Very interesting week for U.K. audiences… For the past four years, X-Factor contestants have held the number one position over the Christmas period. So naturally most would expect a very commercial, pop song to top the charts over Christmas. This week is slightly different. And that’s all thanks to social networking. Tracy and Jon Morter started a small group on Facebook, which then turned into a huge a nationwide campaign (over 450 000 members and acknowledged and supported by Tom Morello, Dave Grohl, Sir Paul McCartney and Muse). Their aim? To take the guys from Rage Against The Machine all the way to top- and to prove to music mogul, Simon Cowell that good music sells, not rehashed top singles done by competition winners. This year’s winner came Joe McElderry covered Miley Cyrus’ ballad ‘The Climb.
This is what I like about Mr Cowell. He acknowledges he lost out this year and has apparently approached Tracy and Jon to work for his label… hell if this little Facebook group resulted in a massive number 1 campaign, these two clearly have an idea on how to make things happen!
