Martha’s glittering ham performance. The video.

By Jackie May | 27 February 2010

As you know Martha spoke a lot about her range of glitter at the Design Indaba in Cape Town on Friday. It’s the glitter that got to the audience and then onto the twittersphere – what! she’s glittering a ham?
This is the clip she showed us. Glittering a ham with Conan O’Brien. It’s actually fantastic.

PS: She left the country today – her last tweet of the day says “taking by helicopter from vineyard to capetown airpirt the scenery is spectacular the indiab ocen the mountains the vineyards oh la la”

Meteor shower. Video footage.

By Jackie May | 24 November 2009

This is quite phenomenal. How did I miss this on Saturday night? I was sick home looking after children. Actually no I wasn’t – I was out eating spicy food with friends.
The footage is from the security camera of the Mustek building in Midrand.

Drunk woman survives falling in front of train.

By Jackie May | 10 November 2009

This was filmed by CCTV cameras in a Boston underground station where a drunk woman stumbled onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train. The driver used the emergency brakes and came to a stop centimetres from her.

The driver, 27-year-old Charice Lewis, describes in the Telegraph what she saw on the platform: “The people were waving, but they were waving too much, and they were really, really close to the yellow line, which you are not supposed to be. It was telling me, ‘Slow your train down. Slow your train down.

“As I was approaching, the lady pops her head up, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. Someone is in the pit.’ I threw it into emergency, exactly what I am supposed to do, and it stopped just in time not to hurt her.

“After the fact, she came up with a big smile on her face.”

The woman has been treated for a few scrapes and is home resting, or nursing a hangover I suspect.

Ethiopia. Girl circumcision.

By Jackie May | 21 September 2009
Leave girls alone!

Leave girls alone!

This horrendous practice should be stopped immediately. It’s rife in Ethiopia where authorities and elders believe that girls who have not undergone the operation will misbehave in their adolescent years. Watch the UNICEF video below:

AIDS is a mass murderer. The Hitler ad.

By Jackie May | 9 September 2009

A German organisation has been criticised for posting an online video of a couple having sex, revealing late in the video that the man is Hitler. It’s part of their campaign, “AIDS is a mass murderer”, and Hitler, being another mass murderer is an obvious character to use in the campaign. Pretty damn hectic.

aids-is-amss

Sapa reported this morning that a prominent German Jewish group and AIDS prevention advocates demanded the ad be withdrawn. “It is disgusting and we’re asking the producers of the campaign to pull it back,” said Joerg Litwinschuh of German AIDS Assistance, an awareness group. He said the ad, commissioned by Regenbogen, German for rainbow, seemed designed for little more than shock value and was offensive to people who have HIV. Jewish groups are saying the ad is “a defamation and mockery” of Holocaust victims.

Usain Bolt. Human perfection.

By Jackie May | 17 August 2009

usain

Is he running on air?

I am not much of a sports spectator. I let most of the drama that is played out on soccer and rugby fields pass me by. I can definitely do without watching cricket. But athletics to me is fine art in motion. Watching 22 year-old Usain Bolt breaking the 100m world record in Berlin last night made my skin tingle. He did it in 9.58 seconds. Butterflies in my tummy. This is human perfection in action. Such beauty!

Watch it again:

(I am trusting that there are no drugs involved – I’m hoping not. )

Arnold and the knife

By Jackie May | 23 July 2009

Eish! This is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s thank-you to constituents for their ideas on how to cut costs.
When asked later if it was appropriate to wave a knife about he said: “Not that I have fun with making the cuts — they sadden me — but … that doesn’t mean that you cannot wave a knife around, or to wave your sword around, to get the message across that certain cuts have to be made because it’s budget time.”

Paolo Nutini – what a pleasure

By Jackie May | 7 July 2009

Frock Report posted this lovely little video of Paolo Nutini, which I watched last night. What a delightful boy. What joy! Will my life, and my aspirations to celebrate my 50th wedding anniversary, survive this infatuation?

Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy’s intimate moments filmed

By Jackie May | 20 May 2009

In this lovely romantic scene, filmed by the Femme Actuelle magazine crew who were interviewing Bruni, Sarkozy and his wife touch each other affectionately, gaze into each other’s eyes and chat to the journalists. It’s the first time that Sarkozy, who had spontaneously popped in to see his wife, and the First Lady have been filmed sharing intimate moments in the Elysee Palace. They are so obviously newly weds.
The video has become an internet sensation in France. Here it is – sorry that there are no subtitles.
