Madonna and Paramore. Knocked off Number One.

By Jackie May | 7 October 2009

Paramore’s Brand New Eyes knocked Madonna of her number one spot on the UK charts this week.

It replaced Madonna’s greatest hits collection – Celebration.

Madge with last week’s number one matched Elvis Presley’s record of 11 UK number one solo albums. I thought that that was kinda cool.

This is a promo for the band.

Face about Madonna. How times change.

By Jackie May | 4 October 2009

The thing about Madonna’s appearance on David Letterman’s show this week was her face. It’s weird. It’s going all wrong. I liked her so much like this:

Fine and pretty

Fine and pretty

The look now is bloated and way too smooth. There are many theories of what she has done to her face. But whatever it is, it’s time stop.

Here’s last night’s Saturday night Live’s hilarious Lady Gaga and Madonna sketch.

Madonna on marriage and more.

By Jackie May | 1 October 2009

On the Letterman show yesterday Madonna discussed marriage, A-Rod and had a slice of pizza (her first?!!).

There have been rumours about marriage and Jesus Luz but when she was asked about plans to marry again, Madonna insisted: “I think I would rather get run over by a train.”

But she misses things about marriage, “You know, being a single parent means you are in charge of everything. You can’t say, ‘Hey, can you give the kids a bath while I…’. There’s no job-sharing.”

I am sure Jesus would do a fine job.

Madonna. Scary monster.

By Jackie May | 18 August 2009

madonna-scary
Ageing is a terrible thing. Although sometimes it’s not such a terrible thing, as I discovered today. Old school friends have been posting pictures on Facebook from the days we spent together in a horrible Cape Town boarding school. As a teenager I looked truly terrible: awkward, overly dressed, bad hair always, leather sandals. Ok it was the 80′s but nevertheless I looked pretty scary. I feel better today than I looked then. But this might all be self-delusional.

Delusional is what Madonna must be…she can’t really think that she’s looking good and anything resembling normally fit and healthy. She recently turned 51 and has done so much work on her body and face, that I think she’s starting to look scary. Before she knows it she’ll be looking something like the Michael-Jackson look-a-likes I spotted in Hyde Park shopping centre, Johannesburg last week. They’re women who’ve either done too much stuff to their faces, or their plastic surgeons have done particularly bad jobs on their faces.

And what about the young Jesus…I would love to know what he thinks about all of this?

Madonna’s Mercy having fun.

By Jackie May | 13 July 2009

A few short weeks ago Mercy left her home country, Malawi, to join her new family in New York. The singer was quoted on BBC: “I am extremely grateful for the Supreme Court’s ruling on my application to adopt Mercy James. I am ecstatic… My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her.”
And here they are – Madonna took her children to Paris this weekend and they were spotted having lots of fun. No sign of homesickness here. But you never know I suppose.
The Daily Mail says “the four-year-old doesn’t seem to be suffering from culture shock”.
Here’s Mercy with her nanny on a scary slide:

Madonna to be Mercy’s mother

By Jackie May | 9 June 2009

The British tabloid, The Sun, reports this morning that Madonna will be allowed to adopt the little girl, Mercy James, 4, reversing the decision to block her initial bid. The Supreme Court, and the three appeal judges, in Malawi was persuaded to allow Madonna to adopt Malawian orphan. Two of the three judges have already submitted reports saying the adoption should go ahead and the third is said to be “in complete unison with them”.
Fabulous news I say.

Here is more from the Sun’s report: Read More…

Jesus. Madonna’s my friend, only a friend

By Jackie May | 26 May 2009

In an interview with Brazilian television, Madonna’s new man, Jesus said: ‘Madonna is beautiful, a person full of positive energy, with no visible faults. I found her marvellous. Her personality also impressed me. She is a person I admire a lot, a friend in my life, who I remain in contact with. But apart from that I cannot say more.’

No wedding bells though. He claims that: ‘She’s my friend, only a friend.’

Sweet. For those of you who speak Portuguese here’s the interview:

News on Madonna’s adoption

By Jackie May | 15 May 2009

No breaking news of a new baby for Madonna – yet.
But there have been a few developments in Malawi. AP reported this week that the man, James Kambewa, who claims to be the father of little Mercy James says he is willing to take a DNA test to prove paternity. This is in his fight against Madonna adopting the 3-year-old. But there is a problem: the girl’s uncle and grandmother have said that they do not believe he is the father. And more importantly they have accepted the adoption.
Peter Baneti, the uncle, said “For DNA to take place they need samples from him and Mercy. We won’t allow him anywhere near her. He should forget it.”
Modechai Msisha, one of Madonna’s lawyers said Kambewa’s claims would have no bearing on a ruling expected any day.
Good luck Madonna. And there is news she may marry the new young love in her life, Jesus Luz. Good for the family’s image.

Madonna risque on day she appeals Malawian adoption

By Jackie May | 5 May 2009

madonna-adoption

Yesterday Malawi’s highest court heard arguments on Madonna’s attempt to adopt Mercy James. The case has been adjourned and a date for the next session has not yet been set.
Madonna was not at Monday’s hearing at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal, which, AP says, was held in public after the judges reversed an earlier decision to hold a closed session. Instead she was seen posing in a design by Louis Vuitton, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala “The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion” in New York.
Now I think she looked fabulous, considering she is 50! But she is trying to adopt a child from a country with a very conservative dress code. It is no longer a formal dress code but as this travel guide says “it is well to remember that Malawian are very conventional, even conservative, people.”
Not so sure whether this outfit will help her case in Malawi. Will the judges understand that this is fashion as art, or art as fashion?
