Good news. Great news news in fact. Obama will attend the global summit on climate change in December. It’s been “unofficially” announced that he will travel to Copenhagen on the 9th December to attend the summit before going to Oslo to receive his Nobel prize. The announcement has been much anticipated, as there were very real fears that he would not attend the summit. Without the leader of the world’s largest carbon emitter – America – a realistic agreement between all the countries on how to cut emissions and stop the warming cannot be expected.
Today in Bonn, Yvo de Boer, U.N. climate treaty chief, told reporters that, “I think it’s critical that President
Obama attend the climate change summit in Copenhagen. The world is very much looking to the United States to come forward with an emission reduction target and contribute to financial support to help developing countries.”
