In September I posted a blog with Heidi Klum saying that, ‘It’s bizarre. Just as it’s a miracle that you can grow a human being in your belly, it’s a miracle that your body goes back to normal again…I don’t think you ever get back to exactly the way you were, but you do get close. And I’m happy with that. Especially when you see your kid for the first time.’

But it seems she’s not so happy with just getting close to normal. She’s been worrying terribly about losing all that baby weight – she’s hired a live-in trainer and put herself on a diet. But what I ask myself, is a freshly popped mother doing trying to lose weight so soon for a ramp walk.

Last week she appeared in the Victoria Secret show a short month after her baby was born looking like this! Surely she’s like me after birth, and is feeling exhausted, overweight and fairly horrible. The only thing that feels good is looking at, caring for and being with the new babe. Ok then she’s not so like me.

But this nervous need of new mothers to lose weight so quickly is worrying. There are websites on this large internet world of ours for anorexics and on one an anorexic mother freaks out saying that “My daughter is three weeks on Saturday: I’ve been waiting for the day I could start losing [weight] since my bump started to show.”

Let the weight drop in its own time. A year or two. Maybe with a bit of effort but not so soon!
