In trouble for saying “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”
If you don’t know the British food critic Giles Coren for his food columns you might remember him for his marvelous angry letter to the sub editors of The Times of London. He was furious that the subs removed the indefinite article a from one of his stories. The fury may have been justified, and the letter is hilarious.
Today I read his defense of dear Kate Moss who is in deep deep trouble with the tabloids and media outlets (read blogs) for saying that her motto is “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. This is an anorexic motto. In the interview though Moss told the journalist that “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels — you try to remember, but it never works.” And then she went on to chat about making jam.
Coren is infuriated by the outrage directed at Moss. He would have said to Women’s Wear Daily, “My motto is ‘don’t waste time talking to website imbeciles whose attention span runs no farther than the length of a word-belch on Twitter’ ” and hung up.”
He says Moss was just being honest and that to look good, you do have to worry about what you eat – within reason of course. It’s the girls who say they eat but don’t who are the dangerous role-models.
These girls “have livid skin, foul breath and hairy backs because not a morsel passes their lips from one week to the next. These sour-faced, lying vixens are the ones who are making young girls on healthy diets think there must be something wrong with them. Not honest Kate,” says Coren.
