In the Nigerian newspaper, ThisDay, a week ago, a very sad letter was published. Joe Igbokwe calls for whites to come back to Nigeria. The letter concludes with this:

This is being said by many Africans that I have met in the US. I am a black American and can’t understand why they are saying this but, in Keith Richburg book he talked about the same subject in that this person is talking about.

It is Africa and it is corrupted by Africans. I live in Dubai and last week Archbishop Desmond Tutu was here. Below is an extract of what he had to say:

“I often feel a jealousy when I visit Dubai and Qatar and see what the leaders have done with oil revenues. My heart aches when I think we have, in Africa, countries equally oil-rich and yet they are languishing in debilitating poverty because of corruption at the top. We look at Nigeria, Sudan, Zimbabwe and we see how leaders can devastate their lands and contrast it to what is seen in some of the oil-rich countries of the Gulf.”

i always tell people i converse with that not having annexed the country through civil war was the greatest thing to happen to SA. White people have helped to cushion SA agaisnt the tribal wars that would have crippled this country like the rest of the continent. We all aspire to live like them in the suburbs and drive the most expensive cars while the tax which is paid mostly by them is helping to finance the social grants. Remember the war between ANC and Inkatha, That would still be happening today. You tell that to the ANC and they will respond with venom because The Truth Hurts.I’m black and a pragmatist and realist

Pedido,Pedido
You are so ignorant. The war between IFP na ANC was fuelled by the same people you admire. The truth finally came out. I wonder where were you. The same people hired the Nofemelas of this world to do dirty job for them.Remember Eugene De Kock? “White people cushioned SA against Bhla Bhla….” What are you talking about exactly? At the time when your favourite race was in Govt, Prostitutes were in Govt Payroll. i admit, Black Govt should stop this nonsense of maladmin and corruption but Whites are no better.

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself just one question: In this beautiful country of ours, who created poverty, disease, violence etc… We are now faced with social grants which are allegedly paid largely by “whites”. Whites came up with documented evil policies which made sure that if you were of a different colour, you were immediately cut off from the mainstream, economically, socially and otherwise. Pedido, you are a product of their policies if you find it difficult to admire your skin colour and instead “you inspire to look like them”. Yes , I am black and No , I am no supporter of the Corrupt (ANC)Government, but your logic is worrying. South Africa is for everyone. No race is superior to the other. You will still be breathing long after the whites are gone(not my wish). My fellow black Africans (not all blacks are affected), it happened, move on with your lives, this culture of waiting for “Whites” and Govt to do things for us must stop once and for all. May be “they” have a point, we cannot think for ourselves, we breed at a higher rate than the rest.Everything is a mess. We kill our own children and each other, we depend on social grants, we do crime, lazy….. the list is endless. When is this going to stop? SAs, let’s all work together to rid this country of the scourge of corruption, murder, disease, rape and forget about colour.

I am a white South African, I love this country with all my heart, it is where my roots lie. I am too young to have really seen what Apartheid was all about, but I can clearly see what the effects of it were, and I believe that we will be dealing with them for many, many years to come.
The more I look into this matter, the more I see the damage, and it really does sadden me. The reality is that it is over, and we actually need to move on. It happened, it has had its effect, we now need to take stock of where we are today and decide how to make a success of this beautiful place with its beautiful people.
Unfortunately, I see us slipping into the way of the rest of Africa, where there is corruption seeping into our very earth, and the blame is lying solely on what has happened in the past. I am very fast starting to see the stresses boiling over, and am not sure if anybody is capable of stopping the backlash. I fear that we are in for a bit of a rocky ride (I sure hope not), and again, this is going to be blamed on what has happened in history. I blame the polical excuses, as politically it has been made okay to blame the past…..we are not living in the past, we are living in today, and unless we as a nation put ourselves into 2009 and 2010, and work together, I am not sure we will avoid the rocky road.
I do not support what Joe Igbokwe has said in his article. As far as I am concerned he is greedy for what we have. They could have what we have, the secret is in reigning in your leaders or finding the correct leaders, the ones who do not take from the people. Being a politician is not about the money it is about the greater good. Our politicians, as far as I am concerned, should be driving cars that are worth no more than R200 000.00 (what was ever wrong with a golf or a polo), they should be living in housing that humble and based on the number of children they have (a certain amount of squares per person). If they want more, they can use their salaries to buy this. We are in a recession, people have lost jobs (lots of them) and we have politicians buying R1.2M cars and spending R250K in 5 star hotels. This is not a race issue, this is a political issue. As honest people, paying taxes, and contributing towards this country’s future, we should have the right to insist that that extra money gets put back into the coffers and distributed to the correct places (informal settlements for service delivery….maybe we would avoid some violence).
The race issue as far as I am concerned needs to be dropped, we need to move on, together, as one.

I am a White Afrikaans South African and I am very proud to be:
1. A Christian
2. A South Africa
3. An Afrikaner

I am not proud at all of the wrongs the Apartheid Covernment commited against people in South Africa. The worse of them all I personally think is lack of education. I fact I condemn ALL types of discrimination based on colour.

We have to honestly ask ourselves how much different would SA have been if all people had equal political power / voting rights in 1970?

I am not even sure if I like that answer.

We can however decide to stick to the past and get stuck there, or we can learn from it and look at the future.

The current BEE and Affirmative Action is harming most poor people in South Africa, including the millions of Black People in South Africa. A company get NO (zero!) BEE points for Black Scholars or Learnerships. Instead companies are forced to appoint people based on colour instead of ability.

This includes teachers! This means still today, and probably for at least another decade, poor black people will still have sub-standard education.

To make matters worse, e.g. it is easier for a black student to be allowed to study for a medical doctor as for a white student. The English exams are also much much easier than the Afrikaans exams. (If you don’t believe me, go and investigate).

This means that in 10-20 years from now, Black Middle class people will send their desperately ill loved ones to a white doctor.

I beg the question. How does BEE and Affrimative Action benefit my Gardener and Maid?

Currently many skilled whites are leaving the country, or working in other African Countries where they are appreciated and respected. They generate money and jobs for those countries.

I suspect that BEE benefits only a small Black Elite and AA also just a small percentage of middle class people. Mostly the political careers of some politicians.

The biggest majority of ALL South Africans are worse off with AA and BEE as it is currently implemented.

For the sake of all the Black South Africans, why can we not focus on Education rather than quick fix solutions that only benefits some?

Great opinions from both sides and somewhee rin the middle, the truth.

For the first time since democracy I am impressed by the new ANC in them seemingly seeing the shortcomings of their predecessors and Apartheid’s biggest neglect, education.

Bais adult vocational training should be implemented nationwide and unemployed should be enrolled there, or not qualify for grants after a certain period, and the money thus forfeited should pay for this system.

Corruption should be rooted out and a system of responsible city management with checks and balances overseen by a powerful body with rights of sanction should be implemented.

An independant tender analysis body should be setup in order to cancek out th eineffective corrupt system of cronyism crippling our supply of basic services.

In the alternative, tender company names should be hidden from tender allocation bodies, and the tender allocation should be done by a combined public and private commitee, much like the trustees of pension funds.

Child grants should only be payable to children enroled in schools where of applicable age.

My penny in the hat.

I’m a black male 32 years old and proudly South African…. Lived in a gloomy ghetto all my life… candles and bucket system toilets …Studied via Bantu education, attended tertiary at the mercy of others who shared my vision….Looked for a job and was asked all sorts of requirements that a ghetto child could never have but nonetheless made it and am now a professional in my line of work and a competent one at that. First for any white person to utter the words that it’s in the past lets forget and move on it’s an insult to me as a black child even worse when you say you understand coz if you did you wouldn’t even start by uttering those words. Secondly for any of my black brothers and sisters who feel betrayed by our current leadership I say to you the answer is in our hands lets work with our leaders today we are part of the process and today I understand the meaning of a weaker rand paying of taxes, the importance of voting,I feel my government is now getting closer to me and my challenges as a citizen and it is our right to now tell them what we want, how we want it and when we want it. Yes I’m an ANC for life but right now I’m talking to a black child regardless of political affiliation. Lastly apartheid has done so much damage that can’t be repaired in 15 years but I appreciate the efforts that are going into it, Madiba spoke and we listened, we embarked on a rainbow nation and yes it is our destination, however the biggest problem I have as we move forward is that I see only black people Forgiving! and displaying a will to forgive… Blacks are Understanding! bending left right and center. I do not remember a single time where a white person apologizes for apartheid to blacks? I do not remember a white person displaying a will to apologize to blacks for apertheid? All I hear is it’s in the past lets move on, Don’t even get me started on how these white companies and executives got to be where they are? If you think it was competency think again? It was a law! Changing all of this is a process that will need BEE to be around for a very long time, yes we need to review it to make sure it benefits all that it is intended for but not abolish it.Education system needs to start with re-educating our educators, counseling them, supporting them coz remember these educators are our parents, brothers and sisters who were and still are comrades of the struggle and these are facts we need to embrace as a black nation, we most importantly need to be genuine around the issue of race, in South Africa there is blacks who are the majority and were oppressed for a long time by Whites who are the minority who enjoyed the benefits of apartheid that saw them living in suburbs owning farms and land that was given to them by the white government who forcefully took it from blacks and declassified them as the inferior whose movement, intellect and life in general was regulated law. Do you guys even know that Nelson is not Madiba’s name? Do you understand how it came about? If you don’t know ask somebody… There is absolutely nothing wrong with being black whether from Mozambique,Malawi Zimbabwe you are african, and soon our problems in our continent will end as long as we keep engaging each other and are realistic about it…White people I still love you just know your place that’s all

Marcos Mr Black Magaia, I can only try to imagine the damage the generation before us, did to the self esteem and lives of Black People. If you have never heard a White Man appologize, I will do it now.

I am sorry for what my Father and his generation did to you and your parents. I appologize for believing (when I was a child myself) that Blacks are less intelligent are all thieves and are all terorists seeking to destroy themselves and everything around them. I am deeply sorry that I believed lies that Black people are somehow closer related to Baboons and Monkeys, than White people are. If there is anything I could do to fix that, I would have. If I could meet you in person, I will not hesitate to do whatever to let you see how much my heart bleads for the Black people in this country.

There is actually nothing more to say. I almost feel hesitant to say anything more. Because what I am about to say might just cancel out all I said above.

We, as South Africans, has to be honest and ask ourselves if the current implementation of BEE and Affirmative Action, actually helps Black people in general. My heart still bleeds for millions and millions of black children getting a very bad education because the Government will rather spend money on their houses, their cars and satisfying their egos with Name changes, than doing more to educate the teachers of this Country. They will insist in selecting decision makers and managers based on colour instead of ability.

I have NO doubt at all that the current lack of ability under educators are definately to be blamed on the ways of the Apartheid government, but by now having office blocks full of Affirmative Action people incapable of help the poor uneducated children of this country, does not help ANYBODY.

I am not saying that corrective action should not be taken, I realize very well that corrective action is needed, but if we continue down the current path, I can assure you that more Black people will be just the same or worse off than ever and more white people will be the same or better off.

How is it that my abilities and passion for helping and educating people are recognized all over Africa, except here in South Africa. How is it that I feel most capable and most appreciated when I am in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya or Nigeria? How is it going to benefit my gardener and maid if I leave this country?

But, I can assure you, that I know that we are all children of the same God, we do not decend from Apes. I know that God has wonderfull plans for Africa and South Africa, all His children, Black and White. I see lots of compassion and understanding between Black and White. I see a common commitment to press thourgh and make this country work, despite politics.

My prayer for you, brother, is that, God will heal your wounds and that one day we will all be blind to the pigmentation of our skins.

Hi Guys, we should move on, for the better of Africa. The point everyone seems to for getting is that all other nations are told to keep any kind of wrong doing to their nation alive. But not Africans, we must move on so that the wicked, go unpunished. All the white leaders of South Africa should be tried for crime against Humanity. Will Europe move on from Hitler, or the Americans from the civil War or 9/11, the Jews from German, will the Boars forget the war with the British?. Lets not forget Steve Bantu Biko I am from Jamaica and I remember Sharpeville and biko. I felt the hurt all the way in Jamaican.

You guys Yes we will have Generation of uneducated Africans, in jobs and place they should not have. This is not good for the nations. But you white boys and girls, you had your share of it for years, so please don’t complain now. Let them have a taste of the honey, you where privileged to because of your skin tone. Please remember that it was because of the white/supported by the Indians, hatred that lots of people in Africa are uneducated. This you can search anywhere. Because then to have a good job in Africa as an African, then you could be punished to death read any historical facts on the white occupation of Africa. And you can’t trust people from Asia mainly India Pakistan Bangladesh or anyone from that region. It is better to trust the white man even in is hatred for us AFRICANS. Than people FROM THIS PART OF ASIA. They have such hatred of them self, they want us to feel the same ABOUT OUR BLACKNESS. I speak from India I have been here for 6 years. I know that they were the white man’s right hand in their quest to rid us from gods Earth. Again look at any conquest that the British took, they always had these people with them, from the Caribbean to Africa South East Asia. I TELL you my Brothers don’t let Indian into your Politics you will become more corrupt that you are now. And India does not let foreigners own companies out right or send money from India you can only bring money in. We should not let Indian have any right in Africa, apart from the basic rights. If you are born in India from foreign Nations you have no voting rights, or are you entitled to Indian passport, can’t work for the Government, so why should we favor them in our countries? Please check any India website Government website. In some state foreign nationals can’t even own cars in their name. do unto others as they to you, forget turning the other cheek, we have being doing this for too long, this is why we have some of the corrupt leaders and Indians running, East Africa we have today strike the iron while it is hot. HAVE Fun. Don’t hate be godly
