Princess Diana and Valery Giscard D'Estaing in 1994

Princess Diana and Valery Giscard D'Estaing in 1994

I’ve been meaning to read Tina Brown’s best-selling book on Diana which is by all accounts brilliant. Now, there’s another book which might be interesting for gossip fodder. Former French President Valery Giscard D’Estaing has written “The Princess and the President”.

Here are some extracts (thanks to The Telegraph):

“I kissed her hand and she gave me a questioning look, her slate-grey eyes widening as she tilted her head gently forward.”

“I stood up and pushed back my chair to allow the Princess of Cardiff to sit down. She thanked me with one of those oblique looks that revealed all her charm.”

“The Morning Telegraph’s front page headline which I translated wrote: ‘The Princess of Wales spent night at French president’s castle.”

“I can still hear her speaking to me in English. It’s not my memory that brings it back, it’s her voice: ‘I wish that you love me’.”

“I returned to the Elysée and walked up the steps, my head on fire and my heart sparkling with happiness.”

Perhaps not as good as Tina Brown’s book.
