Our newsroom sent a picture of Obama’s hand to a chirologist without identifying the person. The reading is delightful. Here’s the delightful story which appeared in today’s paper:

THE Times put one of South Africa’s top chirologists, Kevin Leak, to the test by challenging him to give a reading of a photograph showing only the hand of US President Barack Obama while he was on a recent visit to Russia.

Leak, who examines clients’ palms and fingers, was not told whose hand he was examining.

Turns out he was spot on.

THE SHAPE OF THE HANDS

The shape of Obama’s hand indicates a yielding, flexible person with an easy-going approach.

Obama, Leak said, is emotionally sensitive and aware of the feelings of those around him. Empathetic to others’ needs, his relationships are “intense” and he is a loyal friend with a strong intuition.

“These are the individuals who possess the ability not only to dream the things that stir their emotions, but also the power to make them manifest,” Leak said.

THE ANGLE OF DEXTERITY — the natural angle of the thumb

“Those with this angle present on their hands usually display skilfulness or ease of ability in most everything they do,” Leak said.

A quick learner, Obama will also have good problem-solving skills and physical grace.

MOUNTS — the palm’s “fleshy inclines”

Obama’s palms bear the signs of someone with “compassion, understanding, passion, affection, sensuality, beauty, generosity and active energy”.

But Obama’s palm also bears the signs of exhaustion. He should eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep and exercise regularly.

His “mounts” indicate “subconscious fortitude and determination”, physical and moral courage, and plenty of ambition.

“It is an indication of integrity and strong convictions.”

Obama’s hand is an indicator of strong self-assertiveness and the ability to cope under pressure.

FINGERS

“Each finger represents a specific characteristic and area of life,” said Leak.

Obama’s long fingers indicate an eye for detail and the ability to “spot the tiniest fault at a glance”.

“By nature [he] would be methodical, happy to pore over trivia for hours on end.”

According to Leak, people with long fingers are “usually painstaking with any task they take on, carefully working on every minute detail”.

Obama’s “low-set index finger” shows that he “experienced rejection from his peers” in his early childhood.

His low-set little finger is an indicator of an “emotionally absent” father. His straight little finger means that, as a consequence of an absent an father, Obama developed an “I will do it myself attitude” and is also an effective communicator.

The length of the little finger suggests eloquence.

Obama’s thumb indicates cautiousness, a love of peace, self- confidence and intelligence.

“You will find those with long thumbs in leadership positions as they have a natural ability to effectively manage others.”

THE LINES

The lines on Obama’s hand reflect an “exceptionally independent individual”.

“The long life line on this hand indicates that the roots of this individual’s vitality, stamina and health in general are firmly grounded.”

He is an optimist, a good listener and an attentive husband.

After completing his examination, Leak concluded: “Compassionate and self-sacrificing are also words to describe this individual. There are indications of difficult childhood years, but also reflected is how the individual triumphed over those situations.

“A strong sense of responsibility and justice are also etched on the hand.”
