I speak Afrikaans, quite well, am I South African?

I am confused. My Afrikaans is good, my English better, my Zulu is shocking. Dear Mr Zuma, am I South African?

Mr Zuma this morning, as reported by Sapa said:

“ANC president Jacob Zuma called Afrikaners the only true South Africans among whites, at a meeting with representatives of Afrikaner groups in Sandton, Johannesburg on Thursday.
“Of all the white groups that are in South Africa, it is only the Afrikaners that are truly South Africans in the true sense of the word,” Zuma said.
The representatives of various Afrikaner agricultural, women’s and cultural organisations listened intently after Zuma broke the ice by trying to speak Afrikaans.
“I won’t go very far in Afrikaans. As you know I grew up in Natal… and in Natal we are more English than anything.. So that’s why ek praat nie mooi Afrikaans nie (I don’t speak good Afrikaans),” he said, letting out a long belly laugh.
With the audience leaning forward in their seats, he said: “Up to this day, they (the Afrikaners) don’t carry two passports, they carry one. They are here to stay.”  Some of the representatives tried to applaud, but stopped to listen as he continued.

his statement by Zuma is just more populist drivel. I hope that the Afrikaners see it for what it is. Just as Malema’s visit to Orania, this is just cheap electioneering by the pair of dimwits.

Nooo way. Afrikaners are probably too scared to even listen to COPE, nevermind this other feculant blathering. Oh wait, sounds like I am dissing on ANC. Yeesh, now imagine that. They (my parents included) voted NP till the name changed. Now they don’t even vote anymore. Go figure. Never thought I’d see them so depressed about our country.

This is yet another example of Zuma’s idiot politics. He shmoozes one group with sweet nothings learned from flirting with young girls half his age, while not realising that all the other groups of South Africans are listening.

What next? He will stand in front of the SA Indian group, and tell them that they are true SAfricans, because, because, because…

a hahaha Larry.. can’t believe that actually came through! I thought their settings would have included choice Afrikaans swear words. Kudo’s!!

I feel myself degenerating into the masses at this point. Either filled with paranoid dread or full grr. Can’t explain it better than that. The paranoid dread might come from being a white chica sitting in a world gone mad, too much uhm, 60′s medication in my distant past. The rest just pisses me off on a scale akin to a failed relationship. This whole thing stinks, and not like bokkoms where the stench is worth the munch either.

So if you can get doos to come through, can I try out uhm pi.. mm.. ok, no, I’m not feeling it yet :) It’s just election time, right? No more or less contemptible than the rest of the world? Or is this the mommy in me coming through now, silver lining and all.
