A joint full-scale press conference for President Obama and Gordon Brown has been cancelled. Apparently the Rose Garden, where they would have met with the press, is blanketed with snow. But no reason was given as to why a press conference couldn’t happen inside the White House. Instead of a press conference, a half-hour meeting in the Oval Office will be preceded by a “pool spray” – a few shouted questions from pool reporters during a photo-opportunity with no substantive discussion.

Despite this apparent snub, Gordon Brown was meeting for two hours of talks with Barack Obama at the White House.

The Guardian reported that Brown’s officials played down the significance of the decision, which has taken some of the lustre off his coup in becoming the first European leader invited to Washington for talks with Obama since his inauguration in January.

Brown intends to persuade Obama that America needs to swing behind the prime minister’s plan to reform international financial regulation and clean up debt-ridden banks. Brown was accorded the rare honour of being invited to address a joint session of Congress tomorrow.

Childish behavior by Obama. Obama is not overwhelmed or tired from work. Pelosi and Reid are writing the outrageous bills and running the country. Obama is tired from the parties they have almost nightly at the White House. He has no class and is illegal.

As an American of Scottish and English descent, I don’t understand President Barack Obama’s unfortunate snub of Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Please understand that many Americans still view the United Kingdom as America’s closest ally and partner in the fight for world peace and prosperity.

I didn’t think I’d ask a question like this so soon into Obama’s administration, but he’s forced me: Is the guy on CRACK? In utter, arbitrary, gratuitous, malicious, petty and tacky boorishness (I guess he needed a whipping boy), he treats the British PM like dirt – and he’s supposed to be representing our country! Not ONLY does he NOT have a press conference, but then he tells Brown, “Here, take back the bust of Churchill your country gave us after 9/11. We don’t want it.”
Evidently, this is the real Obama, the kind of stuff we can expect from Obama when he’s not behind a teleprompter. His mean, vindictive side is finally breaking through the campaign veneer. There was no reason in the world to diss Britain like that, except that Obama wanted to show he was “somebody”. What an EMBARRASSMENT to America.
United Kingdom, I for one APOLOGIZE for our president, and I commend Brown for the gracious speech he gave ANYWAY.
