Rocky Marciano's demolition of Jersey Joe Walcott once ranked as boxing's best one-punch KO

Rocky Marciano's demolition of Jersey Joe Walcott once ranked as boxing's best one-punch KO

In South Africa this weekend we saw some great one-punch KOs. Mlungisi Dlamini knocked out Zolani Marali with a straight right, “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen decked Tshepang Mohale with a left cross and Mikey Schultz clocked Samuel Mathebula with a right uppercut.

They were all amazing spectacles, but it got me thinking about one-punch knockouts. There have been some spectacular ones in boxing history, and Manny Pacquiao’s left-hook stoppage of Ricky Hatton must rank right up there.

I believe Rocky Marciano’s KO of Jersey Joe Walcott was once considered the best one-punch KO ever, but is it still rated so highly in modern-day boxing?

What do you think?

no doubt about it. Pacquiao’s punch against Hatton is/was the best/deadliest and most brutal. Hatton slept before even touching the canvass. I thought he was dead!!!! This must be the reason why PBF has been making a lot of excuses just to avoid the Pacman. PBF is scared of Manny.

when rahman KOs lewis for few seconds lewis wake up! BUt when Pac KOs hatton, he needs a few minutes to wake up! PAc’s one puch KO is the best!

When dropped by KO punch from Manny Pacquiao and stayed on the canvass for a couple of minutes, our great joy was soon replaced by sadness and sympathy, we thought Ricky Hatton was dead.

Unlike the other fighters’ one-punch KO, the beauty of Pacman’s KO of RIcky Hatton is that it came on early in their 12 round fight. Hatton did;nt see it coming.

For a very good reason that a diminutive Pacquiao should not or can’t have such a devastating one punch knock out ability but he did it with a spectacular clear hit that the world witnessed, that image of a perfectly executed exeptionaly KO punch will linger on forever in one’s mind.

I didn’t able to watch all the 1 knock out punch for the survey. But I believe they all spectacular like what Manny did to Hatton. One more thing, most viewers now more savor the latest. I watched what Tszyu did to Judah. Judah is leading, then all of a sudden, boom…! Judah never the same after that fight although he is still fighting. After that fight, how I wish Tzsyu was able to face Gatti before their destiny from boxing parted. For Hatton, I believe with the most annalysts that he has nothing more to prove or regain.(Mr. David will you also show us some pictures of the great knock outs of all time? Thanks.)

the world and ricky never saw it coming from the smaller pacman.

if only pac ktfo oscar then ricky would’ve been forewarned. blame oscar for giving up on his stool.

Without any doubt, pacman’s fist hitting on hatton was the quintessential picture- an epitome- of what a knocking punch should be.

You ddn’t include Roy Jones Jr.’s KO win against Montiel Griffin. It’s also one of the best.

At least in my lifetime the best was Pac’s KO of Hatton no doubt about it, it was a combination of brutal precision and lethal power.

I think Rocky Marciano first then Pacquiao second. Just look at the picture and see how devastating it was.

if you watch all that video knockout they are all great but if you watch the knockout of pacquiao to hatton you feel a little bit nervous because hatton sleep the moment he suffer the punch and he not wake up for a few minutes and you can see a scary moment that even you are not a pacquiao or hatton fan you will feel that worry in your heart.

I think the best ko of all time is the George Foreman vs Joe Frasier 1. A right uppercut by Foreman made Frasier lift the ground. I think George is also the hardest puncher of all time. (Reply: Yes, it was a great KO, but it wasn’t a one-punch KO. Thanks for the interest!)

They forgot to put on this list the Kendal Holt’s knockout over Ricardo Torres. Anyone remember that? that would definitively get my vote.

Hey, you’re forgetting Hearns’s piston-like one-knockout punch that floored Pipino Cuevas.
