Jake LaMotta (right) was a brutal, tough fighter who during his prime never went down for a count

Jake La Motta, the world middleweight champion from 1949 to 1951 whose life story was immortalised in the movie Raging Bull, reckons there are no stand-out boxers today.

That may be a bitter pill for fans of fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, but it’s an interesting view coming from a great who is now 88.

“Nobody stands out any more,” he told Reuters in an interview recently. “Maybe there’s a lull in the business. There hasn’t been anyone outstanding for a long time.”

Of course, there are many people – mostly old-timers – who would agree that boxing has slipped over the years.

I’m one of them, but equally, I’m looking forward to November 14.

I’ve enjoyed watching, Ali/Frazier, Ali/Foreman,Vasquez/Marquez, Manny/Barrera.
Manny stands out, he fights, a real fighter. Floyd stands out, a real businessman,he picks his fight.Raging bull, I did not get to see any of his fight, no comment, do’nt know him.

jake is just jealous.
he may have made money in those days but not as much as todays boxers, he is not even famous. i didnt know him, or see his fights, or bothered to search for it. not even worth it. where does he rank among the greats? is he even in the list? sugar shane could easily barbeque some spare ribs off this “bull”

Jake la Motta has no right to make such comments. I watched his old fights in the youtube and I did not see his style worth praising. His style was so ordinary. Assuming that he is presently in his prime and he is going to fight Pacquiao, he would be lucky to finish the first round.

Jake La Motta was just lucky there was no Manny Pacquiao in his time.
