When it comes to breaking records, Shaik could be SA's equivalent to Usain Bolt
Strictly speaking this isn’t sport, but this tale is about the super-human feat of staying alive.
An early report on Wednesday claimed that Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi had died, although this has been roundly denied. Suffering from cancer, he was released from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds in August.
Here in South Africa, convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik was released on medical parole in early March, suffering from some terrible condition that nobody really understood.
Let’s do the maths – the Lockerbie bomber has so far lasted two months in freedom; Shaik is heading for what could be a record eighth.
Some critics may say that Shaik is overstaying his welcome in the land of the living, but I call him a determined record-breaker.
