Ricky Hatton at the end of the Mayweather fight

Ricky Hatton at the end of the Pacquiao fight. The other pic looks similar, but was taken after the Mayweather bout. Compare the gloves - they're different colours

Let’s face it, the biggest match-up to be made in boxing today would be Manny Pacquiao v Floyd Mayweather – the reigning pound-for-pound king against his unbeaten predecessor, back from retirement!

Ricky Hatton, who fought them both, was in Johannesburg last month and I got a chance to interview him.

Hatton after the Mayweather fight. Looks similar to his "Pacquiao pose", but notice the gloves - they're different colours

Hatton, stopped in 10 rounds by Mayweather and two rounds by Pacman, had this to say when I asked him who would win if Pacquiao and Mayweather were to ever get it on:

“I’d like to think Manny would win. I’d hope he’d win because he’s a gentleman, really nice guy, family man. Everything about him I really admire. But as much as I don’t like Mayweather, he’s one hell of a fighter. Mayweather would probably pip him.”

Of course, Pacquiao must first get past Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather would probably mop the floor with Pacquiao? That’s a definition of “pip”. Hey, Ricky, videos don’t lie; you got knocked down 3 times by pacquiao, the third time everyone thought you were seriously hurt. In comparison, you wobbled Mayweather in the 2nd round and was either winning or near winning up to the 11th round when mayweather got you with a potshot to the body.. In the 12th he TKOd you. it would have gone the distance, with you possibly winning, hadn’t it been for the pot shot. Also, did you see how many powershots of his that landed on marquez? Count them- 100, 200? He does not punch that hard, not nearly as pacquiao. You felt the power of the two boxers. Pacquiao pipped you in the 2nd round. My question to you is, are you still so bitter at Pacquaio to say that he would get “pipped” by Mayweather? The whole world, I would bet, is wondering about you now.

Pacquiao embarrassed Hatton bigtime. I read the KO is up for the the KO of the year. what he says is contrary to what we saw. He was competitive with Mayweather, but was outclassed in the worst way with pacquiao. I too wonder about his motive.

Dear Sifufor,

Mayweather beat Hatton in the 10th rd not the 12th. Mayweather was already winning the bout by 8 points after the 9th round (before the two knockdowns in the 10th). Thus, Mayweather blew out Ricky Hatton. He also provided the framework on how to beat Hatton. Pacquiao surprised me with his victory against Hatton. It was very impressive.

However, I give Mayweather more credit because he beat an undefeated boxer who had all of the confidence in the world. Pacquiao is good, but i think Mayweather would school him. He will school Cotto also. Only Mosely may give him problems. I want him to fight Paul Williams because Paul is so large that it will push Floyd to the limit.

I found this: “Hatton wasn’t so impressed after the (Mayweather) fight. ‘What a fluke that was,” he said. “He is very good at making you miss.’” http://www.yardbarker.com/auth.....rnal/42073

Sifufor wat r u on about. Mayweather was way ahead and hatton wobbled may in the first not the 2nd and floyd stopped him in the 10th there was no 11 or 12. What bodyshot r u on about. Floyd hurt hatton bad in the 8th first with a right hand and then with a left hook. And then he finished him in the 10th with a left hook. Get ur facts rite. Pac doesn’t want a piece of floyd cos he wud get beat.

in english,, we call it ‘sour grapes’….
Mr. Hatton, you are a dead meat for 3 minutes, out of this world, in between death and the living with the Pacman…..With mayweather, you are still conscious, whatever……..I guess you will welcome a rematch with mayweather but not anymore with Pacman….COME TO THINK OF IT.

Ricky should have thanked Manny because Manny didn’t prolong his agony.

It took ten rounds for Mayweather to bring Ricky to Golgotha.

While Manny did it smoothly like lowering the lever arm that charges the cable leading to the electric chair.

What he meant is that Mayweather is better than Pacquiao. Don’t be bias here. I’ve seen Mayweather’s fights and he really is very good. There is a possibility that Pacquiao will lose to him.

Hatton was aggressive even in the last round. Floyed then threw that lucky punch. Hatton wasn’t out the way he was when Pacquiao KOd him. The picture is misleading.

By saying PBF will pip Manny, Ricky can’t think straight anymore and obviously his head is already damaged by Pacquiao’s KO Punch. Poor Ricky will never be the same again

hey sifufor…get your facts right…Floyd TKO’d Hatton in the 10th round. Floyd wasn’t hurt in the 2nd round. He was moving backwards and just got off balanced. Floyd’s style is very different from Manny’s. Floyd vs Hatton wasn’t competitive at all. It was a boxing lesson—Floyd carried Hatton until the 10th when he had Hatton hurt earlier. Same with Floyd vs Marquez—a masterful boxing lesson. It ain’t all about power you know…We all saw the 1st Morales fight–skills beat power. When you fight Manny you got to fight smart. You can’t just go for broke—which was what happened to Hatton…Morales (1st) and Marquez (1st,2nd) fought smart that’s why they gave Manny all he could handle. Floyd is a very smart and skilled fighter..it might be very difficult for Manny…don’t get me wrong though, Manny is one helluva fighter…I take nothing away from him

Hey, Lawrence, Mayweather did not blow out Hatton the way Pacquiao did. Hatton chased him all night even in the 10th round. I just looked at again in outube. Hatton nearly put him down with a jab. did wobble him. It was no blow out. One thing for sure, Mayweather does not punch as hard as pacquiao. He hit Hatton many times but didn’t keep him a way, Hatton just brush them off and kept coming in. Here, see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related

Pacquiao put Hatton down 3 times in 2 rounds with a single blow each time! Mayweather will not fight Pacquiao.

If maywaether could not keep hatton away even hitting him flush on the face so many times, how would he keep Pacquiao away? If the fight does happen, I would bet Pacquiao by TKO in the later rounds.

Lawrence, you said he beat the unbeaten?

And you are also saying that mosley would be difficult for mayweather?

Is mosley undefeated? You bunch of stuP!d id!ots! Why can’t you accept the truth?

The truth is, Pacman outclassed Hatton, and Hatton is competitive with Gayweather! Thats the truth!

If Pacman faces Gayweather, he will mop the canvas by hes pretty *** face!

Hatton said that Pacquiao embarrassed him. He doesn’t like pacquiao and will lie.

@floydfan. Even Marquez would lie to diss Pacman. He is more bitter than Hatton. Dela Hoya too lies. So we have 3 guys who have two things in common: 1) they lost to Pacman, 2) they are bitter so they lie..

if u compare fights, floyd should have done better against jmm(lost to manny by decision with a knockdown)..he didn’t even finish him for God’s sake…while pacquiao demolished both delahoya(lost to floyd that lasted til 12) and hatton(ok, 10 rounds as you want it!!!)…now who’s the better boxer???hahaha…floyd fanatics arguments are ridiculous!!!!

October 22, 2009 at 6:33 am

Despite the worst defeat of his boxing carrer from the hands of Pacman, Hatton still trying to elevate himself by saying Mayweather will beat Pacman….why…. because he lasted 10 rounds with Mayweather…. that’s why.

Everyone knows Floyd fought Oscar at his most comfortable weight which is 154lbs Pacquiao on the other hand fought an older version of Oscar at 147lbs…Do the math..Ok now Pacquiao knocked out Hatton in 2 rounds while it took Floyd 10..Ill give you that…BUT…Floyd thrashed Marquez who drew 1 and lost 1 very close fight due to his great counter punching technic…I am telling you Floyd is much bigger, faster, hits harder and a better counter puncher than Marquez ever was and ever will be…Not to mention way more talented..ha ha eat it s u c k e r s.

Pacquiao is no doubt a better boxer than *** floyd jr. Pacman not only have power and quickness but energy to last over 12 round. He is very exposive and fun to watch. I have never seen any boxer that feels very at home in the ring. Damn he is cheerful and smiling as he enters the ring.

Ricky must still be dazed to thinked that Floyd is a much better fighter than Pac. But then again that’s what he thinked and a whole lot of people may agree to him but then also there are a lot of people that will disagree with him. Just watch both fight and decide for yourself.

For Mayweather’s sake, he must not fight Manny. Otherwise, he will suffer a dislocated shoulder. Pacquiao will bombard his defense with left and right anti-matter power punches that could cripple the alleged “Money” man. Please, Floyd, keep your unbeaten record, DON’T FIGHT PACQUIAO!

if and only if Pacquiao – Mayweather bout will happen… mind me saying this… bigmouth JR will, once again, overweight on the night of scaling.. just like what he did with Marquez… WHY? this is where the 65/35 or 60/40 partition Mayweather is asking for will came in…
SO THAT MAYWHEATHER WILL STILL HAVE ENOUGH MONEY LEFT FOR HIM AFTER PAYING FINE FOR EVERY POUND OF WEIGHT HE EXCEEDS (which the bigmouth JR doesn’t really care at all!) THIS IS A SIMPLE FANCY TRICK HE WILL DO TO OUTWEIGHT THE PACMAN ON THE NIGHT OF THE FIGHT!
CHEATA, IS IT!

Have you read what Roach just sain in one of his interview? Mayweather’s defense is not that great… when Mayweather tries to avoid a punch, he simply raised his shoulder, leaving his body open…
SO GUYS WATCH OUT FOR A TREE THAT WILL BE CHOP DOWN… IF THE FIGHT BETWEEN THE SELF PROCLAIMED BEST(DUCKER) FIGHT WITH THE REAL POUND FOR POUND KING TAKES PLACE!

The self proclaimed “best defensive boxer” FMJ has by this time realized he could not back-pedal himself to victory anymore against MP, the undisputed “best offensive boxer” (as per MCotto found out in his match against Manny), and he. He (and his dad) “KNOWS” about this, and would make purse-sharing as big an issue as to avoid a match-up to determine who can rightfully claim the best pound4pound title.

Nestor Valenton

November 17, 2009 at 10:34 pm

btw, if anybody of you out there cares to know…

FMJ camp wants 65-35 purse-share, with FMJ getting 65. MP camp declined.

MP camp made a counter proposal, agreeing with 65-35 purse share, with the winner getting 65. FMJ camp declined.

All you people that compare what happened to Ricky against both opponents are off base. For example, “Manny embarrassed Hatton…Hatton was competitive against Mayweather” or “Manny is way stronger.” You guys obviously don’t understand boxing. Manny is an offensive fighter, Mayweather is defensive. Of course Manny would knock Hatton out earlier. Mayweather and Manny are a great match-up, but the advantage may be to Floyd. Manny has a hard time against real boxers, not brawlers. He barely beat, and many believe he didn’t beat, a defensive counter puncher in Marquez. Floyd is a bigger, faster, and much more skilled counter puncher than Marquez. It should be a great fight, but if Manny can’t hit him, Floyd could win.

“Who’s the bigger draw, Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao? If the official numbers are indication in Las Vegas, it’s the Filipino.
The gate from last weekend’s showdown between Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto— which will air on HBO Saturday (10 p.m. ET/PT) — was $8.84 million with 15,470 tickets sold.

That’s 3,500 more tickets sold and $2 million more than what Mayweather’s comeback from a near two-year layoff drew when he fought Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in September on Mexican independence weekend.

No tickets were sold beneath face value for Pacquiao-Cotto. For Mayweather’s bout, 94 tickets were sold at 50% discount and 895 were comps, or giveaways while just 46 comps were doled out for Pacquiao-Cotto.” -By J. Michael Falgoust,, USA TODAY

-thats the stats from the ticket sales only…

November 19, 2009 at 11:46 pm

Manny PRODUCED around $120mil from his 2million PPV BUYS in fighting Cotto for his SEVENTH DIVISIONAL BELT(FIRST and the MOST in BOXING HISTORY)….

Who has the right to DEMAND the bigger purse? Well the Numbers is SHOWN.

-Manny can demand what he want on ANYBODY. If FLoyd want to avoid Manny with his excuses about the Money. Pacman can easily go for 8th belt against Yuri Foreman or Fight the winner of Mosley vs Berto.WAKE FLOYD AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES….

November 20, 2009 at 6:20 am

I stopped making predictions after Cotto lost. I thought Hatton would win against Pacman. I was wrong. I thought Pacman didn’t stand a chance against Cotto. Again, proven wrong.

Predictions are hard to make, especially if one observes how Pacman’s tactics change with every opponent. I wouldn’t have known he’d have a powerful right hook since he was known for his left hook…until he used it on Hatton. Mayweather versus Pacman? It’s really hard to tell who would win. (Although I’m rooting for Pacman. Mayweather needs shutting up.)
