THERE have been calls for calm following the alleged murder of the AWB leader, Eugene Terre Blanche.
But, make no mistake, the overwhelming majority of South Africans are calm and would like to see justice take its course.
Those who are not calm are the racists to the left and right for whom calm is the enemy.
To them the idea that a murder should be dispassionately investigated, the culprits subjected to a fair trial and then be found innocent or guilty is not acceptable.
They would like to turn this event, which has all the hallmarks of another senseless farm killing, into an occasion for political mobilisation.
There are those who say that Terre Blanche got what he deserved and there are those who say he was the victim of a grand political conspiracy against whites.
Both are fanning the flames of intolerance when they should be entrusting this country’s institutions to handle the matter.
It is wrong to say that Terre Blanche got what he deserved because the strength of the rule of law is most severely tested when society’s least loved require justice.
It is also wrong to conjure a conspiracy against whites when there is no evidence for this.
The fact that numerous government leaders have been at pains to go to the scene of the crime and to condemn the murder in no uncertain terms has done much to set aside these sorts of conspiracy theories.
So to has the statement by President Jacob Zuma who addressed the nation to reassure all with the words: “I call upon our people, black and white to remain calm, and allow police and other organs of state to do their work. This is not the time for speculation that can worsen the situation.”
We should all heed the President’s call.
Surely you can do better than this Ray….
“All the hallmarks of another senseless farm killing”…how long have you been a journalist ?
There is no such thing as a senseless killing. Every murder (and yes, I’ll call it murder since Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and countless others seem to have no problem with the word) always makes perfect sense to the perpetrator.
Whosoever murdered Eugene Terre’Blanche knew precisely what they were about; your stringers must have told you this many hours ago.
Yes, we should remain calm, but equally we cannot deny the possibility that this murder was politically motivated.
Are you serious when you say that we must all trust in the authorities and the rule of law ? What planet are you on man…do you really believe that the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth will ever be revealed in this case ?
Please prove me wrong, perhaps start by publishing the findings of an independent autopsy into the exact cause of death of the victim’s dogs.
Do you honestly believe what you wrote?
Since when are “black and white” Zuma’s people? Since ET was murdered? Was not a week ago when he stated that Malema must continue singing his ‘kill the boer’ song.
I do not have any faith in the local police service and the fact that so many of the government went to the farm makes it even more suspicious to me.
Ray, Ray is that your honest opinion or are you now following Zuma’s instructions to journalists?
I’ve read the killers had not been paid in months. If true, it sounds like Terre’Blanche wasn’t much of a farmer/businessman, either’ furthermore, if it’s true, I’d advise others to learn from this dead man’s business practices.
I read with dismay and shock of the above comments. How many African brothers are ill treated in this small volkstat like ventersdorp and Krugersdorp?
It is despicable and insulting to Africans and even to go extra miles to glorify Terre blanch as a hero. No, there is something missing to Black South Africans especially Zuma and his entourage (ANC and Cabinet) by sending special condolences to only white sector which happen to be racist.
What about the young man who was brutally assaulted by the very same Terre blanch in Ventersdorp who now permanently disable? What about Africans who were mistaken for the baboon short and killed?
What about fellow Africans who on everyday life made mockery when the Boers make braai and called them only to beat them out of pleasure? What about the Cedesa which was disrupted not only by anyone but Terre blanche himself?
Is this reconciliation or politics of victimology that deserve some kind of favor at our own expense as black South Africans? We cannot equal the oppressed and the oppressor and the latter has been give preference again at the expense of our African brothers.
I do not care who says what blacks in this country were taken for the ride for far too long and racist is a racist that is what Terre blanch stood for and has been give the taste of his own medicine. As we converse in this blog there is racism that is taking place each and every second be it in work place or somewhere in ventersdorp or Krugersdorp.
I call upon all Africans who happen to be in the above areas to stand against any intimidation by this handful of AWB. We respect law to take its course but not at our own expense.
Above all he was an albatross and vile in advancement of the struggle by the black man in this country.
Zuma’s administration must stop this thieving embarrassment and being perfidy to blacks and like minded who laid their life in advancing the struggle by being theatrical, painful and striking behavior to brand racist as hero.
Hear hear, Reggie. By the same tone, someone should just shoot Malema for the same reasons you give above.
Larry, we have forgiven the white folks too much in this country. Either you shoot or kill Malema that’s all up to you but what I am saying is that black man is on his own and never underestimate our strength.
Zuma and his colleagues must stop this drama of accommodating racist like you at our own expense and face reality of this monster of racism.
You are still oppressing us at work place. You still perceive us as filty. You still perceives us as backwards. You still perceive us as primitive. We have negotiated this freedom as early as 1912 under the banner of South African native congress led by shrewd Africans likes of Dr Lembede, Dr langalibalele to name few. With one racist Boer by the name of Terre blanch we have to standstill and honor the devil. No, you might as well go to nearest hell and burn with the likes of Verwoerd and Malan.
In fact we have given you too much room and you abuse that .Is time for you to face the reality.
Reggie, perhaps it is your own perception that oppresses you.
You and your peoples problem is that you have all the true freedom that you ever wanted, but you dont know how to make any good come of it. You think that freedom is a magic wand that brings free education, health, wealth and happiness. Well it does not, good buddy.
You are only free to work hard, seek opportunity within the law of the land, and most important of all; – you are free to choose your leadership and government of this precious country.
Dont point at us – we are a successful people – here and everywhere. We do not need to change a winning formula – it is you and your people who must change and be free of yourselves.
@ Larry,
Last time I checked JZ was addresing the poor whites in Pretoria. The number of poor white folks is growing, and I am very much impressed by this trend.
@Nkosinathi,
Last time you and I checked JZ and the ANC kleptocrats were making themselves rich through government tenders and corruption. And the last time you were on these blogs, you were chased away with your tail between your legs because you could not debate (well, very poorly.)
There is no shame in being poor. There is much shame in being racist and of being generally childish and stupid about it. Shameful, is what you are, and hardly a worthy countryman to share my country with.
Ooh, Larry you must be taught some kind of civility because your parent has failed you dismally.
Anyway read the food for thought below from one of greatest African ever walks the planet earth.
“We do not want to be reminded that it is we, the indigenous people, who are poor and exploited in the land of our birth. These are concepts which the Black Consciousness approach wishes to eradicate from the black man’s mind before our society is driven to chaos by irresponsible people from Coca-cola and hamburger cultural backgrounds.”
The Quest for a True Humanity, I Write What I Like, 1978 by Steve Bantu Biko.
I hope sanity will prevail after reading the above extract.
When you arrive here you were poor as church mouse.
Thanks Nkosinathi for the reminder of Bethlehem. The very same Larry’s great great grand parents were living in squalor exactly like Bethlehem so you must stop boasting about success. You have nothing but looted Indigenous resources.
Your fore fathers excluded us in the formation of the union instead collaborated with the Britains. We have fought fist world war with no guns to protect you to be successful as you are today. Should we have been given equal platform as early as 1910 in the formation of the union we will sharing the very same sentiments.
You did not come with the civilization but you stole our brains.
@ Reggie,
If you, a black African, cannot understand the precepts of ‘Black Consciousness’ as expressed by Steve Biko, then I who understand the concept very well, cannot and should not even be bothered to explain it to you.
Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless.
“society is driven to chaos by irresponsible people from Coca-cola and hamburger cultural backgrounds.”
re-read the quote,Larry.
for as long as there are whites who think that their race is more supreme than that of other races, South Africans haven’t got the freedom they deserved. As much as white people might claim to have made their own success, they made their success at the expense of the black majority… Reggie is 100 percent correct in her argument, South Africa as a nation is at its best today, then it ever was… The white nation might want to believe that things were going well under the racist system of Apartheid, but the biggest challanges we are faced with today are as a result of the white nation getting all it’s benefits, and the black nation having to suffer and live in inhumane and unproperly planned circumstances, situations and areas…
@Ray, you are a 100% correct my brother, only the racists are not calm…
@ Larry,
I would like to know which slave (Tea girl / garden boy) of yours chased me away with my tail in between my legs in these blogs? and how s/he chased me?
If I remember correctly I always have a last word with you and your tea girls.
@Zap, you are a 100% correct my brother, only the racists are not calm…Ray has said what it really is.
@ZanuPiss Off For Life: Get real man: Find a new name (and ideology) for the real world…enuff of your **** ****** clutching at old “struggle rhetoric” can you not see that HERE (…in the REAL WORLD) the tide is turning? Ho ho! Your attitude offends the calm oxen and seeds of new grass that blow toward a greater country. You are in the way. Get out of that way. Go home. THINK! Come back when you are ready to offer constructive debate.
hell seems rough guys. It seems the result of bad management (leadership) is now in full blossom in S.A today and the whites have eventually had it in chunks. Which ever way u look @ it ET was murdered no excuses. my thaughts are with the family. the truth is bob mugabe has proved the obvious, farmers make food for ALL the little faces in the country. (basic really) without this basic thing everything gets difficult. So rule no.1 dont bite the hand that feeds. there have been 3100 bites I hear. dangerous hay ? violence is not needed to show who,s the real daddy. the brain is the most powerfull weapon. EVERYTHING is difficult on a empty stomach.
how long will the west keep sending food to tragically managed africa that has the potential to be the most powerfull continent ? how badly do the farmers want to make thier point 6200 or 20 000 bites ? how much is to much ? what happend to samewerking chaps ? the rand is weak so export your crops.. DONT BEAT YOUR KIDS IF THEY NAUGHTY, SEND THEM TO BED WITH EMPTY STOMACHES.
@Zap
It does not matter what whites think of themselves. How does what whites think have any bearing upon the lives of black people?
It has everything to do with what black people think of themselves. If you think yourself superior, then you will be. And you will succeed as a human being. Why do you let whites set the agenda on this issue? Pull yourselves up instead of trying to drag us down.
You now have political power and even economic power, yet you flounder like fish out of water and behave as if you are still being oppressed.
This is the Black Conciousness that Steve Biko was expounding upon. Dont measure yourselves against white people. Have your own superiority and you will flourish.
It is just so depressing to have to read the same cr.ap from the same sets of apologists. Do we as South Africans have any talent at reinventing our nation to cope with the modern demands of surviving in a bankrupt Africa?
@ Magwegwe,
What new ideology? the one of befriending and licking imperialists arses? My friend when you want to become a white men’s condom dont impose that rubbish dogma to us not. The tide hasn’t turned for us for as long as these pink ******** are still controlling more than 70% of our economy which they stole from us.
F#kc off you f#kcin tea girl!!!
Nkosipampoen
The economy of this country was created from dust, which is how the Europeans found this country in the first place. Nothing was stolen.
But ‘it was created with the slave labour of the blacks’ you will cry. Yes, we all benefited. People who only knew maizemeal are now eating Nando’s and wearing real clothes and sleeping in brick houses and driving cars. Thanks for helping us make this a wealthy country for all.
Faaking teagirls pantywaste.
At last someone who writes the reflections of my own mind, Ray – I was beginning to feel like the Extreme Lone Ranger in my corner of the North West Province. It only becomes an issue of any bent once everyone MAKES it one.
