TRANSPORT Minister, Sbu Ndebele has said that the two drag racers who killed four teenagers in Soweto on Tuesday must face “the full wrath of the law.”
The entire nation stands behind him on this and the trial and conviction of rapper “Jub Jub” – real name Molemo Maarohanye – and the man he was racing against cannot happen soon enough.
Following their callous recklessness and what appears to be from police accounts, an alcohol fuelled fever, four young lives have been lost and two others are fighting for survival.
These young matric pupils were on the cusp of their adult lives and their families hopes and dreams have been cruelly shattered.
So, yes, Ndebele is right to wish the worst the criminal justice system can offer on the two culprits.
“This is an unnecessary loss of innocent young lives and therefore those who are found guilty must face the full wrath of the law. We cannot dice with death and play games on our roads. Therefore, motorists who engage in such illegal activities must be apprehended and face the consequences of their actions.”
What remains to be seen is whether or not the police and the criminal justice system are able to deliver on Ndebele’s promise.
Previous drunk-driving incidents involving celebrities have suggested otherwise.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana star Doctor Khumalo’s case is yet to be settled well over a year since the incident took place.
Then there was the case of Mandoza who was found guilty and set free only to crash another car — ironically the same make as that involved in Tuesday’s deadly dice.
Ndebele and Justice Minister Jeff Radebe would do well to make it their mission to see that Tuesday’s killers don’t go unpunished.

Let them be sentenced and let it be a lesson to all drag racers, car spinners that people’s lives are much more valuable that their adrenaline rush.
T the communities the drag racers and car spinners do this because they have an audience, please stop patting them in the back and let the know they are cot welcome in the streets where your children walk on daily basis.

March 9, 2010 at 5:50 pmThis tragic and senseless incident should be a national disaster and should serve as a stark reminder that drink and vehicles do not mix. But where is the enforcement? Prevention is better than cure yet traffic policing in this country favours a fines system that generates billions of Rands annually whilst all but ignoring the fact that people will only behave as badly as they are allowed to. The JMPD has to share responsibility of this senseless loss and own up to the fact that they care nothing for people, except where they can provide them with a quick buck. What is the price of a human life? Just ask anyone who has received a camera fine or endured a detention in a road block courtesy of the JMPD or any other traffic authority in the country. STOP FLEECING! START POLICING!
