The youth leader Julius Malema is said to have invoked the ghost of Joseph Stalin in his latest assault on the SACP, whom he described as the “greedy yellow communists” who wanted to control the ANC so they could get their hands of piles of money.
Said he: “The yellow communists are driven by greed. They sing anti-corruption songs. They are the most corrupt. There is everything wrong with the communists trying to take over the ANC. They must be reminded of the character we want, booing is not part of the character.”
While he is about it, he might consider these quotes from Stalin which throw light on other troubles:
1. “Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don’t allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?”
2. “It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”
3. “A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.”
4. “You do not lament the loss of hair of one who has been beheaded.”
Just saying …
